Silica gel can be used to remove bed bugs from fabrics, mattresses, and even carpets by dehydrating them through a process known as desiccation. Diatomaceous earth is also an effective tool for treating infestations due to its impact on parasites exoskeleton or shell; it punctures their outer layer which leads them to dehydrate quickly when exposed. • Use an encasement on mattresses and box springs to prevent adults from escaping at night when people are sleeping in those areas (which is when most bites occur). Encasements also provide another barrier for nymphs trying to get out of bedding/cushions/etc…
