Bullet ants are named for their ability to shoot their stinger into your skin, injecting venom that causes pain so severe it’s been compared to being shot. They’re called “bullet” ants because when they sting you, it feels like a bullet hitting you.
But these little guys don’t want to hurt you—they just want some food. They will only sting if you accidentally step on them or try to pick them up without gloves on, which is why there are so many videos online of people getting stung by bullet ants (and watching them react).
