Bed bug dryer time is simply how long it takes for bedbugs to die once they have been exposed to heat. Unfortunately there is not a standard or universal temperature that is considered safe and effective for killing bedbugs. Bedbugs can generally survive high heats and so they can live through very hot temperatures in an uninfested environment. But exterminators are now using heat chambers, also known as thermal death chambers, which produce much hotter temperatures (over 120 degrees Fahrenheit) and provide a more effective way of killing bedbugs. Most exterminators agree that heat should be used as an adjunct method of bedbug control but no studies have been released to show how effective this method is on its own.

If you are using a dryer, be sure to take out any clothes from the dryer immediately after drying. To avoid this problem, you should know how long to dry your items and what the drying times are for different items. For example, it’s recommended that you dry a mattress for at least one hour, whereas a sofa can take two hours or more.

When exposing bed bugs in clothing, some insects may survive even after being heated for an hour at 130°F (54°C). Additional treatments are recommended—such as steaming or vacuuming—to ensure that no bed bugs escape from their hiding places.
