Natural Remedies For Fleas For Cats
Homemade Flea Bath for Cats
If you’ve never tried an essential oil flea bath before, here’s what you’ll need:
- A spray bottle filled with purified water (not tap)
- Several drops of lemon, lemongrass, lavender or eucalyptus essential oil. You can also add in a teaspoon of vegetable glycerin if you’d like to make sure the mixture is nice and thick. If you don’t have any essential oils on hand though, it can still work without them! Just use regular water instead!
Now that you have everything ready for your cat’s bath time adventure, here’s how to do it:
- Spray down your pet with the mixture from head to tail until their entire body is covered in liquid. This will help kill off any fleas currently on them so they don’t just crawl back onto them later.
- Use a flea comb to remove any dead fleas from their fur afterward so there aren’t any left behind when they dry off again – this makes sure no eggs are laid at all (and prevents more infestations).
Eucalyptus Powder for Cats
In addition to its many other uses, eucalyptus powder can be used as a flea powder for cats. This is especially effective when combined with basil leaves and rosemary, which help repel fleas from your pet’s fur.
- Mix eucalyptus oil and water in equal parts.
- Combine the blend with dried herbs such as basil and rosemary at a ratio of 2:1. You may also add peppermint oil if you like!
- Apply this herbal mixture to your cat’s coat after shampooing or bathing him/her; leave it on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off thoroughly.
Rosemary Water Flea Treatment
If you have a cat, you know that fleas are a fact of life. There’s nothing worse than finding your pet covered in the blood-sucking parasites and having to remove them one by one with tweezers. You can avoid this process by using rosemary water flea treatment on your feline friend.
To make the rosemary water flea treatment, add several sprigs of fresh rosemary to 2 cups of cool tap water in a bowl or small jar (be sure not to use metal). Let sit for 4-8 hours, then strain out any bits of stem or leaves that remain and pour into a spray bottle or pump-style container. Shake well before using!
When you’re ready to bathe your cat, apply generously from head to tail until wet all over then let sit for 5 minutes before rinsing off completely (you may want to keep his eyes closed while doing this). Repeat if necessary two more days in a row before washing him again with regular shampoo as usual! If possible keep him inside during this time since it’s likely he’ll still be vulnerable until his coat grows back fully (which may take up 3 weeks) but don’t worry too much if he has an accident outside because these oils will help repel future invaders
Apple Cider Vinegar Flea Spray
If you’re looking to treat fleas naturally, apple cider vinegar is a good option. It’s easy to use and can be effective when used correctly. To use it, mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with 1 cup of water in a spray bottle and shake well before each use. Spray the mixture all over your cat’s body—avoid getting in their eyes!—and let it dry for about 30 minutes before giving them another bath with soap and water or shampooing them with pet-safe products that don’t contain chemicals harmful to cats.
Of course, there are some drawbacks: Apple cider vinegar can be irritating and cause skin irritation if it gets into their eyes; this is why we recommend avoiding applying directly on the face or other sensitive areas as much as possible while still making sure they’re covered evenly throughout their bodies (except for their face). The best way to do this is by spraying over one area at a time instead of spraying everywhere at once and then waiting until it dries before moving onto another area; this way everything can dry off evenly rather than having some areas dry while others remain wet/moist due to an uneven distribution across different parts of their bodies (which could lead towards chafing).
Some people have reported side effects such as redness around the mouth after using apple cider vinegar on cats but these seem rare compared with benefits such as reducing bacterial colonies on skin surfaces thanks its antimicrobial properties.”
Citrus Flea Spray Recipe
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of white vinegar (you can also use lemon juice)
- 10 drops each of eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil and lavender oil (you can also use any other oils you prefer)
Instructions for Making Flea Spray: Mix all ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well. You can spray your cat or dog with this solution directly from the bottle as well as on their bedding or other areas they frequent to repel fleas. When spraying it on your pet, leave it on for at least 10 minutes before rinsing off. This will allow time for the oils in the product to penetrate through the fur and skin before washing away. It’s best to reapply after bathing or swimming so that you don’t rinse away all of its effect!
Alternatives to over the counter flea treatments.
If you’ve decided to try natural remedies for flea treatment, here are some things to keep in mind:
- Cats are sensitive to chemicals and essential oils. The best thing to do is find out exactly what each product contains, and then test it on a small patch of skin (like your own arm or leg) before applying it all over your cat’s body. If the area gets red or inflamed, stop applying that product immediately and wash off with soap and water.
- Essential oils can be used alone or combined with other natural ingredients like lemon juice or apple cider vinegar—and sometimes even essential oils from other plants such as lemongrass oil!
