I Have Ants In My Pants

I was once out for an afternoon picnic with my parents when I was a kid about ten years old. We decided to stop on the bleak but beautiful moors for our picnic.

I was well into insects and bugs at that age, and eagerly went off hunting. I was lucky enough to spot a small green lizard; not a common sight in Britain, but after that, not much else, so I sat down on a large stone. After a while, I became aware of an odd sensation in my trousers, and on my arms, and discovered that I had sat on a large nest of tiny red ants. Fortunately, being small, the stings were not very painful, but I hared back to the car, and had to strip off my trousers and most of my clothes to rid them of ants. I’ve never had that experience since, thankfully. My advice is to steer clear of ant nests.

So, now you can extend your knowledge, and ask what happens when you get a bee in your bonnet. Spoiler: the answer probably won’t come from a beekeeper!
