Parasitic Ants

Ants are fascinating creatures. Their ability to form complex societies can be astounding. No, I’m not talking about the Formicidae family of ants. We’re headed south of the border where a certain species of parasitic ant can take over your entire brain. Yes, you read that correctly. A species of parasitic ant called Pseudomyrmex insectus has a rather sneaky way of taking control and altering the behavior of it’s host ants in order to increase its chances of survival. Parasitic ants are considered a serious medical issue in various countries. There is a whopping total of over 14,000 known species of insects that once establish themselves can cause damage to the home and attic areas. While it’s easy to spot an ant infestation near your house, but sometimes they can be in places we don’t always think about. Some parasitic ants build their nests underground and are easily missed by homeowners.

Parasitic Ants

Parasitic ants have a unique way of reproducing. They do not lay eggs but instead give birth to live young. This is possible because the female parasitic ant has two different kinds of genitalia: one for laying eggs and another for giving birth.

The queen ant lays eggs in order to make new workers, soldiers, and reproductive males and females. The males will mate with the queen, who then stores their sperm inside her body until she needs it to fertilize her eggs. The male ants are winged at first but lose their wings after mating with the queen.

After mating, all of the male ants die except for one; this one male is responsible for fertilizing all of the female ants that will become queens themselves when they reach adulthood (if they survive). While laying the eggs that will become new worker or soldier ants, these female ants also lay eggs with developing embryos inside them; these are called “royal” eggs because they contain embryos from multiple fathers instead of just one father like regular eggs do. Royal eggs are placed in special chambers where they can be cared for by other workers until they hatch into larvae; these larvae have been fed royal jelly since birth and therefore grow larger than normal larvae.

Parasitic ants are a unique group of insects that are found all over the world. They are very small, ranging from 2 to 10 millimeters long. They live in colonies that can be as small as just a few dozen or up to several thousand ants. These ants reproduce by laying eggs, which are carried around by other ants in their nests until they hatch and mature into adults.

The lifecycle of parasitic ants is incredibly complex and interesting, but one thing that’s especially fascinating about them is how they get their food. Parasitic ants feed off of other insects, latching on to their bodies with their pincers and sucking out their insides! This means they don’t need to hunt for food themselves—they simply wait until another insect comes close enough for them to latch onto.

They have been known to target many different types of insects, including beetles and caterpillars (you know what happens next). Some species might even try to attack larger animals such as frogs if they get too close!
