Pee Ants, scientifically called tamanduas, are large South American anteaters. A group of pee ants is referred to as a column. Amazingly enough, when threatened, these bold animals will take a defensive stand by linking together in a long column. They pierce the skin of the attacker with their powerful stingers and deliver a venom that can paralyze small predators like dogs and cats and even injure a human. The pee ant sting is extremely painful, which makes the following video all the more amazing.
Pee Ants
Pee ants are a unique type of ant that has developed a special ability to survive floods. These ants use their bodies to form a kind of raft that allows them to float on the surface of water, even after they have drowned. This process only takes about 30 minutes before the ants become buoyant enough to float on top of the water.
These ants are mostly brown or black in color and grow to be about 1/8th of an inch long. They live in colonies that are made up of up to 300 individuals, but some colonies can be much larger than others depending on the type of ant and its environment.
Although these ants do not bite humans or animals directly, they will bite at anything that touches their nest or colony so it’s best not to get too close unless you want a painful burn from their venomous stingers!
The best way to avoid getting stung by these ants is by making sure there is no food available for them near your home or business because they prefer eating rotting food items instead of fresh fruits or vegetables when given the choice between the two options!
Pee ants are unique in that they have a very distinct smell, which is similar to that of urinating. It is this smell that makes them easy to detect, and therefore, easy to get rid of.
The best way to get rid of these pests is by using a spray that contains an insecticide such as d-limonene or pyrethrin. These sprays will kill the ants on contact and prevent further infestation.
