Insecticide For Citrus
Insecticides for citrus trees get rid of pests that harm your tree and negatively affect your harvest. Choosing natural insecticides when possible helps ensure applications do as little harm to the surrounding environment as possible. Always carefully follow the instructions on the insecticide label, even with natural products, to prevent injury to people, animals and your citrus tree.
Narrow Range Oil
-
Effectively control a number of insects with narrow range oil, made from petroleum or vegetable oil. It kills citrus leafminer (Phyllocnistis citrella) eggs laid on leaves but is significantly less effective against its larvae. It also kills citrus red mites (Panonychus citri), California red scale (Aonidiella aurantii) and yellow scale (A. citrine). Spraying narrow range oils on unripe lemons can damage the fruit. To avoid increasing the likelihood of frost damage to your citrus tree, don’t apply narrow range oil after October 1.
Bacillus Thuringiensis
-
Bacillus thuringiensis is a microbial insecticide. This bacterium naturally occurs in the soil and on the surface of plants. It kills a number of harmful insects when they eat it, while leaving beneficial insects, such as mites that feed on citrus pests, unharmed. Apply bacillus thuringiensis in warm, dry weather to get rid of actively feeding California orangedog caterpillars (Papilio zelicaon) and citrus cutworm (Egira curialis). There are several varieties of the bacteria, so make sure the pest you are targeting appears on the product label.
Azadirachtin
-
Azadirachtin is a natural insecticide that effectively controls specific pests, while harming few beneficial insects. It effectively controls citrus leafminer, as well as a variety of whiteflies, including citrus whitefly (Dialeurodes citri). This environmentally friendly, biodegradable insecticide comes from the neem tree and gets rid of pests by interrupting their growth cycle and discouraging them from feeding.
Fenproximate
-
Fenproximate is a chemical miticide. It helps control pests on citrus trees, including the Yuma spider mite (Eotetranychus yumensis), citrus rust mite (Phyllocoptruta oleivora), also known as silver mite, and citrus red mite. Unfortunately, it also kills beneficial mites. For an effective treatment plan, apply fenproximate twice per season and maintain at least 14 days between applications.
Insecticide For Citrus
Insecticide for citrus trees is an important part of the citrus production process. Not only does it help keep pests away from your trees, but it also protects them from disease and infestation. There are many different types of insecticides available on the market today, but each one comes with its own set of pros and cons. Insecticide for citrus trees can be divided into two main categories: contact and systemic.
Contact pesticides are designed to kill pests that come into direct contact with your tree. This type of insecticide works best against soft-bodied insects such as aphids or mealy bugs, which often reside in the upper canopy or on leaves rather than directly on branches or trunks. A common example of this type of pesticide is neem oil or pyrethrins, which are derived from plants used in traditional medicine in India and Africa respectively. These types of pesticides are generally considered safe for humans to use around food crops but should not be applied without gloves because they may cause skin irritations if handled directly!
Systemic pesticides work by disrupting chemical processes inside insects’ bodies rather than just killing them outright like contact pesticides do
