So you’re in the middle of a flea infestation, and you’ve tried everything to get rid of them, but nothing has worked. You want your dog to be happy and healthy again. I’ve been there, and it’s not fun! Months ago, my dog Mabel got fleas — bad ones! But I stuck with a flea-killing treatment, and I eventually got rid of them. Here is my regimen that works at eliminating unwanted pests that are terrorizing your dog’s fur. Fleas are parasites that feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals. Although fleas aren’t known to spread any type of disease, there are several issues associated with flea infestation. One way to get rid of fleas is to apply topical pesticides like sivin and flea shampoos. Another way is to use natural remedies such as garlic and peppermint oil because these ingredients are toxic to the parasites. As both a devoted dog lover and owner of four dogs, I recently found myself struggling to eliminate fleas from my home. Those tiny pieces of hair seem to be everywhere, so I started looking for ways to get rid of fleas at home. If you’re just as frustrated as me, read on for my tips on how to kill fleas on a dog. So you’ve discovered that fleas are on your dog and you’re looking for effective home remedies to get rid of fleas. Well, the effective home remedy you need is vinegar. This article provides a step-by-step guide to using vinegar for killing fleas on your dog.
How To Kill Fleas On A Dog
Baths
One of the most common methods for getting rid of fleas is to give your dog a bath. To do this, you should first gather the following items:
- A clean towel (if possible)
- A spray bottle filled with warm water and a small amount of dish detergent or baby shampoo (optional)
- A flea comb or other grooming tool
Combs
A flea comb is an ideal tool for removing these pesky insects from your dog’s fur. They can be purchased online or at pet stores, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some are designed for short-haired breeds, while others are good for long-haired breeds.
Flea combs are very effective at removing fleas, eggs and larvae from your dog’s fur because they have fine teeth that gently penetrate the skin without scratching it. This makes them ideal not only for killing adult fleas but also killing all life stages of fleas (eggs and larvae) as well as other mites that may be living on your pup’s body such as ticks or sarcoptic mange mites.
Flea Collars
Flea collars are ineffective at getting rid of fleas and can cause skin irritation in your dog. Flea collars contain insecticides that kill adult fleas by latching onto their bodies so that they cannot move or feed. Unfortunately, these flea collars also kill live insects such as bees and butterflies, which means they’re not a great choice for use around children or pets who spend time outdoors. Flea collars can also irritate your dog’s skin and cause allergic reactions if he wears one for long periods of time. Plus, since most flea control products come with a similar warning label—the Environmental Protection Agency has classified many of them as toxic—it’s important to use them only when necessary (and only according to instructions).
Shampoos
Shampoos are a great way to kill fleas on your dog or cat. Here are some shampoos that can help:
- Flea Shampoo – This is an excellent shampoo for killing fleas and ticks on dogs, cats, birds and other small animals. It’s also safe for pregnant or nursing pets!
- Bio Spot Dog Flea & Tick Shampoo – This formula kills fleas by suffocating them in their pupae state (the stage between larvae and adult). It also kills ticks by dissolving their stomachs so they starve to death before they can get big enough to give you Lyme disease!
Collars
Collars are a good option for dogs with short hair. There are many different types of collars available, but the most common are plastic, metal and cloth. Collars can be used with a flea comb to remove fleas from your dog’s body as well as a flea shampoo or herbal remedy that you apply to your dog’s fur before bathing it. They can also be used in conjunction with an insecticide-impregnated collar that kills adult fleas on contact (and any eggs they’ve laid).
Herbal Remedies
Flea-repellent herbal remedies are a safe and natural way to treat fleas on your dog. They are also perfectly safe for humans and pets, even if they are puppies or kittens. There are many different types of herbs that can be used in a flea repellent, but the most common ones include rosemary, citronella, lemongrass and eucalyptus. These herbs have been shown to help repel fleas because they either make it difficult for the pests to eat or move around on the pet’s body (eucalyptus) or simply smell bad when crushed by cats’ feet while walking through grassy areas where these plants grow (rosemary).
The best time to apply this treatment is right before going outside so that you don’t get pesticides all over your house!
Fly Strips or Catches
Flea traps are a great way to catch fleas. When you are trying to get rid of them, it is important that you know where they are hiding. Fleas can hide in pet bedding, carpets and furniture. A trap will help you find out what areas they frequent so that you can then treat those areas using insecticides.
The best time of year to use traps is during spring and fall because these two seasons have moderate temperatures which allow the fleas to survive longer than in winter when it gets too cold or summer when it gets too hot outside for any type of insect life at all!
