Bed bug infestations are on the rise throughout Philadelphia. Homeowners, renters, and vacationers visit the city for business or pleasure can encounter bed bugs when staying in hotels, going to restaurants, visiting cabs, or even purchasing second-hand items. In other words, it’s possible to pick up bed bugs basically anywhere you go. Bed bug infestations are becoming a growing problem in many cities and Philadelphia is not an exception. As the weather starts getting colder and the winter begins, bed bugs are coming out of hiding, feeding and attempting to find a comfortable place to spend the next few months until spring. In the U.S., an average of 700,000 people receive a medical diagnosis of bed bug bites each year. These bites, while annoying and sometimes painful, are usually not dangerous. The most common response after suffering from such bites is to panic and try to treat them immediately with over-the-counter medication. The truth is, however, that this will not eliminate the problem.
Philadelphia Bed Bug
The Philadelphia Bed Bug is a type of insect that lives in beds. It can feed on humans, but it also feeds on blood from other animals such as dogs and cats. The Philadelphia Bed Bug is known for its bite marks on humans, which can cause itching and redness.
The Philadelphia Bed Bug is reddish-brown in color with a flat body and six legs. It has short antennae that are about half an inch long, and it has no wings. The female bed bug lays about 20 eggs at a time, but these eggs are not visible to the naked eye.
The Philadelphia Bed Bug can live up to 200 days without feeding on blood, although they prefer to eat every 5-10 days when they are fully grown. The male bed bug dies after mating with a female bed bug; however, females can live up to a year without feeding on blood before dying in order to lay eggs.
Some people mistake other insects for being Philadelphia Bed Bugs because they look similar; however, this type of insect does not have wings or antennae like others do!
