Prepare for a Technician Visit
There are a number of steps you can take in order to prepare for an upcoming bed bug treatment visit:
- Remove clutter from the areas where we will be working, including drawers and closets.
- Wash all linens, blankets and clothing as well as other items that cannot be stored outside the house (such as stuffed animals). We recommend washing all clothes in hot water on the highest setting possible; any items that cannot be washed should be sealed in plastic bags until they can be laundered later. Place these items in a container labeled with “Do Not Launder” tape so they don’t get mixed up with clean laundry.* Vacuum carpets using high suction power settings and vacuum wall-to-wall cracks and crevices around baseboards where bugs could hide.* The technician may ask you not to wear cosmetics or scented body lotions during their visit; also request that everyone leave the house upon arrival so no one comes into contact with infected areas after treatment has started.* If you have nightstands or dressers next to beds, seal them off using duct tape before removing contents – this will prevent new infestations from being brought back inside when furniture is moved around again later on.* Seal mattresses completely by covering them completely with plastic bags – this helps prevent adult mattress bugs from escaping once we treat them inside!
Step 1: Remove Clutter
Remove Clutter
The first step to preparing your home for bed bug treatment is to remove clutter. Clutter makes it harder to reach all the places that bed bugs hide, and it can also obscure areas where they may be present. Remove items from under beds and couches, especially if you cannot see what is directly beneath them (like behind walls or under furniture). Do not block access to vents or pipes because these spaces are often important places where bed bugs will seek refuge.
Step 2: Wash and Dry Linens
When you are washing your linens, make sure that you wash them at the highest possible temperature. The heat will kill any bed bugs that are hiding in your clothing and bedding. It’s important to remember that you should wash pillows and bedding as well as clothes that have been stored in closets or drawers.
Step 3: Vacuum Thoroughly
Next, you should vacuum thoroughly. This is an important step that many people neglect—but it’s vital to get all the bed bugs out of your home. After vacuuming, throw away the bag immediately and don’t use it again for anything else. Your technician will also be able to inspect your vacuum for bed bug eggs or other signs that may indicate a problem in your home.
Avoid vacuuming before the technician arrives, during their visit and after they leave. They’ll be able to spot any eggs or evidence of activity even if you’ve cleaned up since your last infestation!
Step 4: Bag Up Clothing
The fourth thing you can do is bag up clothing. This step is important because it will help to protect your garments from bed bugs and other pests. Bed bugs are able to survive for a long time without feeding, which means that they can hide in clothing until the chance comes along for them to feed on you or another human being again.
To bag clothing properly, you need to be sure that all of your garments are washed in hot water and dried on high heat. Any item with a zipper should be opened completely before washing, as this will make sure that no bed bugs go into hiding inside the zipper mechanism itself (which could happen if only one side of the zipper was opened). When drying these items off after washing them at high temperatures (at least 60 degrees Celsius), it’s best if they’re hung out in direct sunlight instead of indoors under artificial lights; this will kill any remaining insects hiding within seams and pockets so they don’t come back later after being stored away somewhere else like a closet or dresser drawer. After this process has been completed
Step 5: Clear Nightstands, etc.
Step 5: Clear Nightstands, etc.
Now is the time to remove all items from nightstands and dressers. If you have any items that are in direct contact with the bed, be sure to place them in a plastic bag and seal it closed. This includes alarm clocks, books, magazines and other items that might be touching or resting near the mattress or box spring. You can also remove any curtains or blinds from your bedroom if they aren’t washable (dry cleaning alone will not kill bedbugs).
Step 6: Seal Items Inside Plastic Bags for Storage
The last step in preparing for bed bug treatment is to seal up all items that you want to keep. We recommend using plastic bags and putting them in the freezer for 2 days, which will kill any eggs or bugs inside the item.
If you are planning on having your items treated, there are some things you can do to help ensure that they don’t get damaged during treatment. You should seal up your mattress and box spring before bringing it into our facility for treatment. If you plan on having us treat your furniture or clothing as well, we also recommend sealing those items with plastic protective covers before bringing them into our facility for treatment.
If an item cannot be treated due to its size (like a couch), make sure it is sealed in plastic so that no bed bugs can escape while being transported from point A to point B!
Your technician will help you prepare for treatment
The right preparation is the key to a successful treatment. Your technician will help you prepare for treatment by:
- Giving you a detailed preparation checklist. Your technician will explain each step of the preparation and answer any questions you may have, so you know exactly what to do.
- Working with you to create an effective plan for preparing your home or business before they come to treat it.
If there’s anything extra that needs doing, like washing sheets or removing furniture from the room being treated, your technician can also assist with those tasks too!
