Bed Bug Home Remedies

Alcohol spray

Alcohol spray is one of the best home remedies for bed bugs that you can use.

You can spray alcohol on the bed bugs, then wipe them off with a towel or rag. The alcohol will kill them — but it won’t harm your skin or furniture in the process.

Make sure that the alcohol you use is at least 70% pure, and don’t try to substitute rubbing alcohol for other kinds of alcohol because it doesn’t work as well. If you have an old bottle of rubbing alcohol lying around somewhere, throw it out immediately! You should also never use any kind of solvent-based cleaner to treat for bed bugs; if you do so by mistake (or if someone else does), stop what you’re doing immediately and call an exterminator right away!

Another great way to use this remedy is by using it to clean surfaces before treating with other methods such as heat treatment or steam cleaning (see below).

Heat treatment

  • Heat treatment

Heat is one of the best ways to kill bed bugs by desiccating them. Dry heat is particularly effective because it causes water in the insect’s body to evaporate and causes their blood vessels to burst. Use a blow dryer or heating pad on high for at least 40 minutes, but make sure you don’t overheat your home as this could cause damage and even start a fire. If you don’t have access to either of these options, consider using a heat gun (available at most hardware stores), portable heater or even enlisting pest control services that offer heat treatment services such as Skip Tractor & Chemical Company LLC in New York City.*

  • Integrated Pest Management Strategy

Heat may also be used as part of an integrated pest management strategy (IPM) alongside other methods such as vacuuming up dust mites, sealing cracks around doors and windows with silicone caulking, etc.*

Cold treatment

This method is the most convenient since it doesn’t require you to wash your clothes. Simply put dry ice (carbon dioxide in solid form) over your clothes and leave them there for an hour. Then, remove the dry ice and let your clothing air out for another hour before putting it back on. You can store dry ice at room temperature, but it will sublimate (go from solid to gas) when exposed to oxygen—which makes sense given that carbon dioxide is odorless and colorless. However, this method does not remove smell or kill bed bugs; instead, it merely stops them from laying eggs through freezing temperatures for a couple of weeks.

This treatment can also be used in rooms or furniture by placing a small piece of dry ice directly onto cracks where bed bugs may be hiding or laying eggs under baseboards; this treatment will last longer if an entire wall or section of flooring is covered with frozen carbon dioxide rather than just one small area

Cryonite

Cryonite is a dry ice product that can be used to kill bed bugs and their eggs. It is effective, safe, and easy to use. Cryonite is approved by the EPA.

The active ingredient in cryonite is CO2 (carbon dioxide). When CO2 contacts warm objects (such as beds), it turns into C02 gas, which causes internal damage to the bug’s cells. This causes them to die within 24 hours of being sprayed with cryonite.

Dusting powder

Dusting powder is a good way to kill bed bugs on contact. Dusting powder can be used in the cracks of your walls, underneath furniture and behind drawers. It’s also good for dusting along baseboards and door frames. Do not apply dust directly onto mattresses or any other fabric that may come into contact with skin (like pillows).

Dust contains fine particles of insecticide that kill bed bugs on contact, but it doesn’t provide long-term relief from an infestation because it doesn’t stick around for very long—it dries out fast and has a tendency to get blown away by air currents. Also, don’t use this method if you have children or pets in the house because they’ll probably end up breathing it in (which isn’t great for anyone).

This remedy is best used as a temporary solution while waiting for professional help!

Insect growth regulators

You may have heard of an IGR, or insect growth regulator. An IGR is a chemical that prevents bed bugs from maturing and reproducing. It’s a safe, effective way to kill off the adult population of bed bugs.

Typically, you’ll need to use it with another treatment method to get rid of all the eggs in your home. You can combine it with other treatments like heat-based products and pesticides if needed.

Steaming/vacuuming (steam cleaner)

Once you’ve done that, use a steam cleaner to clean the mattress. It will kill bed bugs in all stages of development, but make sure not to steam the mattress itself—just other surfaces like carpets, floors and cracks and crevices. Steam cleaners are very effective as bed bug treatments since they can kill many insects on contact (unlike insecticides). You should also empty your vacuum bag well outside of your home so that any dead bugs are not brought inside by accident.

Vortex bed bug vacuums

Vortex bed bug vacuums are among the most effective and safest treatments for eliminating bed bugs. They are lightweight and easy to use, making them ideal for both professionals and homeowners. Vortex vacuums can be used in conjunction with other treatments to ensure that all life stages of bed bugs are eliminated.

There are a lot of ways to get rid of bed bugs.

  • Heat treatment. This is the most effective way to get rid of bed bugs, and it’s also the most expensive. The heat kills off all life stages of bed bugs in your home, including eggs. You’ll want to hire a professional for this one because of how much time it takes (usually at least a day), but you can do it yourself if you have an industrial-strength oven like those found in restaurants or bakeries. Make sure everything is sealed tightly before being placed into the oven, including mattresses and other furniture items that need to be completely enclosed with plastic before heating them up (you don’t want any steam getting out).
  • Steam cleaning/vacuuming/spraying with chemicals on furniture surfaces only kills adult bed bugs; the egg casings remain unharmed and will hatch within 7-10 days after treatment
