Bed Bug Home Treatment

Wash bedding in hot water

After you vacuum, you should wash all your bedding in hot water. This will kill any live bugs and their eggs. You can also use a dryer to kill the bugs if you want to get it done quickly. Wash all clothing, sheets, pillows, stuffed animals and anything else that may have been on the bed or near it. Make sure to wash everything with detergent or laundry soap at least twice because of how hard it is for these tiny insects to get into fabrics like cotton and wool that they cannot digest. They need moisture in order to survive which is why they feed on blood (which contains oil) from humans’ bodies during the night when we’re sleeping peacefully unaware of their presence!

It’s important that after washing your bedding and clothes in hot water that you hang them up outside where there’s direct sunlight so any remaining eggs will be fried by UV rays from our sun!

Vacuum furniture and floors

Vacuum all the furniture, floors and carpets. Vacuum all cracks and crevices in your furniture. Vacuum the mattress, box springs and headboard.

Steam clean carpets

Steam cleaning is a quick, easy way to rid your carpets of bed bugs and eggs. The heat from the steam kills any bugs that are present on contact, while also helping to kill any eggs they might have laid. Steam cleaning will not kill all bed bugs, however, so if you want to be sure your home is free of them you should also use other treatments as well.

Steam cleaning is also very useful in preventing future infestations by killing off any existing eggs before they can hatch into adults and start laying more. However, it’s important to note that steam cleaning isn’t a substitute for chemical treatments like pesticides or sprays—it won’t work on wood floors or concrete surfaces (unless those surfaces happen to have carpeting).

Encase pillows, mattresses and box springs

This will help prevent bed bugs from spreading to other items in your home. Also, it can help you protect the integrity of your mattress since some people use their mattresses as a place to sit or lean on during the day—which can damage the seams. Some encasements come with a zipper seal that needs to be locked closed at all times while others have an elastic band that gives the mattress extra security when zipped shut. When using an encasement:

• Make sure there are no gaps around the edges of your mattress where bedbugs could escape; this includes under headboard brackets and legs.* Inspect regularly for spots where bedbugs might have crawled through small openings (such as tears or stains)
