Appearance
The common bed bug is the species most adapted to human environments. Adult bed bugs are approximately 4 to 5 millimetres long and 1.5 to 3 millimetres wide. They are oval, wingless and rusty red or mahogany in colour with blood-filled black spots on their backs (see picture above).

- Identify the problem.

- Vacuum the whole house, including furniture and rugs. Do this twice a week for four weeks to be sure you’ve removed every egg from your home.
- Get rid of clutter around the house so that bed bugs have fewer places to hide. Also, don’t forget to look inside drawers and cabinets — even cracks between wallboards or furniture can let these critters thrive undetected! If possible, remove items from closets and dressers; if not possible (and it might not be), make sure they are cleaned well with rubbing alcohol before putting them back in storage areas again after cleaning other rooms in your home as well as yourself since dirty clothing can harbor an infestation long term too!
