What is Aprehend Bed Bug Killer?

Aprehend is a fungus-based, naturally occurring product that is safe and environmentally friendly. It was developed by Penn State University researchers and is distributed by BASF. This organic fungicide works to prevent infestations on bedding and furniture, but it doesn’t kill the bed bugs themselves — instead, it creates an inhospitable environment for them.

Aprehend does not work like pesticides or other chemicals in that it’s not meant to kill existing bed bugs; rather, it keeps them from getting onto your mattress or box springs: as soon as you apply Aprehend to your infested items with an included sponge applicator, the spores will spread throughout the fabric. The spores then grow into fungal hyphae which are toxic to insects but harmless to humans. This means that when a new bug comes along looking for somewhere warm in which to spend its days (night) slumbering away before waking up hungry again tomorrow morning — boom! They’ll see this nice big fungus colony growing on their newly chosen mattress/box spring/pillowcase/etc., decide “nope,” then move on down the line looking for something less smelly than what they’ve just encountered.

How does it work?

Aprehend is a non-residual, ready-to-use pesticide that kills bed bugs on contact. It works by having the bed bugs walk across it and then die. Aprehend is absorbed into the bed bug’s skin and disrupts its natural defenses, which causes the insect to die. The product has a long-term residual effect, meaning that after application you don’t have to spray again for several weeks or months (depending on environmental conditions).

How Do I Use It?

Aprehend is also very easy to use. Simply spray the areas that are known to be harboring bed bugs, including cracks in the wall and baseboards or any other area where they could be hiding. Aprehend dries clear in about five minutes, so you can resume your activities without worrying about leaving trails of chemical behind. It’s important to note that since this is an aerosol product, it should not be used on fabrics; instead treat those areas separately with a liquid spray or powder if possible.*
