Arena Insecticide For Chinch Bugs
Arena insecticide will not control all types of chinch bugs. The active ingredient is Bifenthrin, which belongs to the pyrethroid chemical family.
Arena is a contact insecticide that kills chinch bugs by direct contact. It does not have systemic activity, meaning it does not move through the plant tissue to kill insects that feed on the plant later. For this reason, you will need to apply Arena Insecticide twice per season – once in late spring and again in late summer/early fall – when chinch bug populations are at their highest.
Arena Insecticide is also a residual insecticide meaning it continues to kill insects that pass through treated areas throughout the growing season and into winter months (as long as temperatures remain above freezing).
Chinch bugs are tiny insects that can cause great damage to your lawn. They feed on the sharp edges of grass blades while they are in the nymph stage, and when they grow into adults, they attack the crowns of grass plants.

Chinch bugs look like small black ants with white wings and a red or orange abdomen. Adult females lay about 300 eggs per season that turn into nymphs which begin feeding in about one week. The most damaging stage is when these insects are in their nymph form.

Signs of a chinch bug problem include yellowing areas of grass with roots pulled up from the ground. If you suspect chinch bugs are causing damage to your turfgrass, get out a gallon jug of water and mix in a teaspoon of dishwashing detergent. Pour it over an area about 12 inches square, and watch for chinch bugs that float to the surface within about three minutes. This will determine if you have a problem with these insects
To determine if you have a chinch bug problem, use a bucket of water and detergent. Pour the detergent over an area about 12 inches square, then watch for chinch bugs that float to the surface within about three minutes. This will help you determine if you have a problem with these insects in your lawn or garden.
If more than 15 adults per square foot are found on this test, there’s no doubt that some damage has occurred to the grass and other plants in your yard or garden. If this is the case, you should get rid of all signs of these pests immediately by using an insecticide designed specifically to kill them off (such as Arena Insecticide).
