If you live in the south east like me and you are seeing your friends posting a lot about bed bug bites on Facebook, you want to know if they are bed bug bites or mosquito bites. My husband and I have done a DIY inspection and we were not sure what we had but wanted to know how to get rid of them. So we got online and started reading about each of them. Below is our findings about whether or not it is a bed bug bite or a mosquito bite and how to treat it! The way we treat bed bug bites is very different from the way we treat mosquito bites. Some homeowners confuse the two and do not take a Bed Bug Bite Treatment seriously. However, if you think that mosquito bites are just a minor annoyance then read on to figure out where mosquitoes come from and how to get rid of them. You’ve probably heard about the recent bed bug epidemic and have started to worry about the potential dangers of such a pest. You are not alone, but what worries you more than the presence of bed bugs is the question of “how do bed bug bites look like?” After all, you need to know if your bites really come from bed bugs, and not from mosquitoes!
Bed Bug Bites Vs Mosquito
These pests are so alike in the eyes of an untrained person.
It is important to know the difference between bed bug bites and mosquito bites. Both of them are insects that feed on blood and have similar characteristics, but their bites look different. A trained professional can tell you if you have been bitten by a bed bug or a mosquito at first glance. It’s not just the name that they have in common!
The name of the insects may be similar, but there are a number of ways in which they differ. Mosquitoes are insects and bed bugs are arachnids. Bed bugs belong to the same order as spiders and scorpions, while mosquitoes are part of the same family as flies and gnats. Additionally, mosquitoes are in the order Diptera while bed bugs are in the order Hemiptera (or “true bugs”).
But what is most important to know is that both mosquitoes and bed bugs can bite humans and cause significant discomfort!
They look pretty much the same.
Both have flat and oval bodies, looking like a small brown freckle.
Both have six legs, antennae and a segmented body (the same as all insects). The only difference is that the bed bug has hair and the mosquito does not.
In terms of size, they’re also very similar.
Both bed bugs and mosquitoes are tiny, but you won’t be able to see them with the naked eye. Bed bugs are about 3mm long and 1.5mm wide (the size of a small apple seed), whereas mosquitoes measure about 3-4mm long.
They’re both bloodsuckers, but one has a preference.
While both mosquitoes and bed bugs are bloodsuckers, mosquitoes only want to eat human or animal blood. Bed bugs, on the other hand, will happily feed on other things if they need to—including dead skin cells, plant matter and even dust mites (which is pretty gross).
It’s thought that bed bugs developed a taste for blood because it’s so much easier to digest than other food sources. As such, they’ll go after any warm-blooded creature they can find instead of being picky about what kind of person or animal they feast upon.
Mosquitoes don’t have this luxury because only certain people carry their eggs in their bloodstreams. If you’re not pregnant or otherwise carrying around mosquitoes’ favorite breeding ground then you may never be bitten by one unless something else draws them out like heat or an illuminated surface like a light bulb or window screen.”
Both feed at nighttime.
Both mosquitoes and bed bugs are active at night. Mosquitoes are known to be active during the day, but they prefer to feed at night when there is less human activity. Bed bugs, on the other hand, are most active when their host is sleeping (crepuscular). They are attracted to carbon dioxide and heat emitted by humans as well as scents produced by blood flowing through capillaries in our skin (blood smells like iron).
They both travel and move in a similar way.
Both bed bugs and mosquitoes are wingless, so they move around by crawling. Mosquitoes fly, but bed bugs can only crawl.
Bed bug bites can travel up to 20 feet per minute! Mosquito flight speed is 1.5 miles per hour.
Their habitats are also quite similar.
Mosquitoes and bed bugs are similar in the sense that they both hide in dark, secluded places. Both insects enjoy hiding in and around mattresses, bed frames, couches and cushions. They can also be found near windows with screens or open windows. Since mosquitoes like to hang out around standing water (like puddles), they’re often found in tall grasses or trees as well — just like bed bugs!
As such, you may wonder how to tell the difference between mosquito bites vs bed bug bites if all of these insects take up residence indoors? The answer is that it’s not easy because both animals have very similar habitats. The most important factor, the bites, appear to be more or less the same.
As far as the bites go, they’re very similar. The most obvious difference is that mosquito bites are itchy while bed bug bites are not; however, there are other differences that may be more difficult to detect with the naked eye. For example, mosquitoes have a painful sting while bedbug bites do not; also, mosquito bites tend to be redder and don’t last as long as bedbug marks (which often appear in groups).
Mosquito bites vs bed bug bites is a tough comparison to make.
Mosquito bites vs bed bug bites: the differences are subtle, but important. If you’re unsure whether you have a mosquito bite or a bed bug bite, this article will help you make the distinction.
We’ll start by considering some of the similarities between these two types of bites. Both mosquitoes and bed bugs bite humans (and other animals), and both do so for food and reproduction purposes. These insects also share similar habitats—mosquitoes live in humid areas like forests and swamps, while bed bugs prefer warm conditions such as homes or apartments.
But how can you tell if your skin has been affected by a mosquito or by its smaller cousin? The best way we’ve found is to look at who came out on top after an encounter with one of them: did they get away unscathed? Or was there evidence that something had gotten through their defenses?
