Bugs have a smooth, oval appearance without wings until after they’ve fed, then their bodies swell and turn a reddish color.

The eggs are oval-shaped, smooth and translucent. The nymphs are brown or reddish in color and have a flat body with six legs. Once feeding begins, the bug’s body swells and turns a reddish color (the same way that mosquitoes swell when they suck blood). After feeding, it may take up to two weeks for a bedbug to become fully engorged with blood.
