Bed Bug Color

Bed Bug Color. The dreaded word of anyone that shares a living space with their partner. I have walked the line between passion, love and hate on the subject of bed bug color and wanted to expand upon it. Not everyone considers bed bug color an issue but I can assure you that for those that do, it is something we consider daily. If you’ve done research on bed bugs you might have come across the topic of bed bug color. It’s a question that comes to mind when you see red or reddish-brown blood stains on your mattress, sheets or furniture after waking up in the morning.   A lot of people wonder what this is from?  They are unsure if the stain is from their own blood or if it’s from a bed bug. In this article I’m going to explain all about bed bug color and what it means to you and your family in terms of infestation. Let’s talk bed bug color. Do they always come in red/brown or do they change to blend in with our decor? What can we do to keep them from coloring all over our sheets and duvets? They’re coming…

Bed Bug Color

A mature bed bug is about the size of an apple seed and can vary from shades of brown to reddish-brown.

A mature bed bug is about the size of an apple seed and can vary from shades of brown to reddish-brown. They are oval in shape, wingless and have a small “tail” that is often mistaken for a stinger, but is actually an organ called the pygidium.

A mature female may lay as many as 500 eggs during her lifetime, which lasts several months. Bedbug nymphs reach maturity in about one month; they are lighter in color than adults and do not have fully developed wings

Turn on the lights and look at your mattress carefully for small reddish-brown spots that may be dried blood from crushed bugs.

  • If you see small reddish-brown spots that may be dried blood from crushed bugs, consider having a pest control professional evaluate and treat your home.

Bugs have a smooth, oval appearance without wings until after they’ve fed, then their bodies swell and turn a reddish color.

The eggs are oval-shaped, smooth and translucent. The nymphs are brown or reddish in color and have a flat body with six legs. Once feeding begins, the bug’s body swells and turns a reddish color (the same way that mosquitoes swell when they suck blood). After feeding, it may take up to two weeks for a bedbug to become fully engorged with blood.

Bed bugs are small, but you might be able to see them if you know what to look for.

If you think you have bed bugs, the first thing to do is get a magnifying glass and look carefully around your bed. Bed bugs are small, so they can be hard to spot.

If you see any small brown or reddish-brown bugs scurrying around on the sheets or mattress, that’s a pretty good sign that you have bed bugs (though it isn’t 100% conclusive). The adults usually range between 1/8 inch and 1/4 inch long, while the nymphs are even smaller (about ¼ inch). An adult female can lay about 200 eggs in her lifetime. Bed bug eggs are white or translucent and look like tiny grains of rice; they’re usually laid on rough surfaces such as textiles instead of smooth ones like plastic or metal. They will hatch after about two weeks if no conditions interfere with their development—but if temperatures rise above 86 degrees Fahrenheit for several days straight then egg hatching may be delayed up until two months later!

If you see any signs of blood streaks under your feet when changing clothes then this could also indicate an infestation because some people experience allergic reactions from sleeping in beds where there were once large numbers of live insects crawling over their bodies while they slept unawares during previous nights’ slumbers…
