This is why I have decided to write this letter to the owner of the premises, filling it with explanations as well as photographs of the damage done so far. When I signed my lease, I really didn’t think this could happen, but sure enough, within the first week of living there, we had bed bugs. Use this letter when having an issue with bed bugs in your rental unit

The letter below is a good example of how to communicate with your landlord about bed bugs. The first part of the letter (before “Please refer to”) lists facts that you can use as references: you have been living in this unit since May 2008, you were informed by a pest control company on June 1st that there are signs of bedbugs in your apartment, and you have reported it to the building management office. The second part (after “Please refer to”) gives details about what steps you have taken so far (calling the pest company and contacting your landlord), and also puts some demands on the property management company – namely that they treat for bedbugs immediately and pay for any legal costs incurred as a result.
