Bed bug droppings on my pillowcase has been the bane of my existence. I have a mattress set that is 14 years old and hand me down. Recently we moved into a new house and it’s not as nice as the previous one. We are poor, so I cannot afford to buy a new bed just yet. Since we had company recently, I bought a few new pillows as many of them were looking a bit worn out and it was suggested that if there were bed bugs in the house that they would most likely take residence in the pillows because they tend to be more used. Bed bug droppings on my pillowcase has been the bane of our existence ever since. Bed bug droppings are one of the most difficult things to remove from your bedding and bedding accessories, especially if you’ve never dealt with bed bugs before. Was it the laundry detergent? If you’re like me and have been dealing with a bed bug infestation, then you know how frustrating it can be to look down at that beautiful clean pillow you just washed, and then seeing droppings fall off on to the sheet. These little guys are tricky – but this article will help you get rid of them for good.
Bed Bug Droppings On Pillow

You may be wondering how to tell if you have bed bugs. Bed bug bites look like other bug bites, so it can be difficult to tell if they are the cause. If a bug is crawling around on your sheets, it could be a bedbug or just as likely that it’s a mosquito or cockroach (although these would be less common in bedrooms). In order to determine if what is biting you is actually an insect, look for the following signs:
- Shed skins: These tiny brown specks are shed by adult and immature bedbugs during molting and reveal their presence when seen on clothes or sheets. They’re often confused with dirt because they resemble small pieces of dust when dry but become hard and glossy when wetted down with alcohol or water – making them easier to spot! Also look for blood stains on top of mattresses where the bugs were crushed during sleep time hours – though this may seem unlikely given how fast these little guys move around at night!
- Dark spots: As mentioned above already but worth repeating because it’s important enough not just once but twice too each paragraph should contain only one sentence so any extra words will distract readers from enjoying your writing style…
What do bed bug feces look like?
Bed bug feces look like small black dots. They are usually found near where bed bugs were feeding, such as on a mattress seam or in a crack in the baseboard. You may also see them on your sheets if you leave your clothes or bedding out while you’re sleeping. If a bed bug has been squirming around under your pillow, it’s possible that you’ll find its droppings there too.
Bed bug excrement looks like pepper and is often visible in streaks on sheets and mattresses. The little black dots can be dried into blobs that appear to have been pressed onto the surface of whatever they landed on; this is especially true with sheets because they aren’t sticky like cardboard boxes or walls would be (the stains are caused by hemolymph).

In order to help you identify bed bug droppings, we’ve included a photo of a blood speck/stain left by a smashed bed bug. You can also search online for “bed bug droppings” or “bed bug feces.” These photos will show you what the actual poop looks like.
As you can see, this is not an accurate indicator of an infestation; other things besides bed bugs leave behind blood stains (such as nosebleeds), and some objects look similar to bed bug droppings, such as black pepper-like specks.
This photo is over-magnified; the real thing would be too small to make out without magnification or photography.
Bedbug fecal matter tends to be black or dark reddish brown in color. It looks like tiny black specks of pepper, but when you wipe it away with a tissue, it will smudge and smear. By contrast, dust will leave a streak behind on your cloth or paper towel as you wipe it away.
Possibly the best way to identify bed bug feces is by rubbing them with a damp cloth—the moisture causes the droppings to smear more than they would if dry, which makes them easier to spot. The same goes with other stains that may also appear on your bedding (like blood) if you don’t clean up well after an infestation: if you rub these stains together with water and soap, they can be more easily seen too!
This is an extreme close-up of a single speck of bed bug defecation.
A bed bug’s droppings are black, round, and look like small grains of pepper. The feces can be released in a liquid form or dry (like the picture above). Bed bugs often leave behind these speckles when they crawl over your sheets or mattress. These specks may seem insignificant compared to your larger concerns about bed bug infestations — but don’t fool yourself! You should act quickly if you find them.
Bed bug excrement doesn’t just make your home look gross; it also indicates an active infestation within your walls. This means that there are already thousands of bed bugs crawling around inside the walls and crevices of your house, looking for new places to hide during daylight hours when humans are awake and moving around in their bedrooms. Even after you’ve killed off most of the adult population in one room, there will still be tiny juveniles hiding out somewhere else in the house—and they’ll need food sources nearby so they can grow up into adults themselves before long!
At first glance it looks like a bit of black pepper but it is not quite the right texture and shape.
At first glance it looks like a bit of black pepper but it is not quite the right texture and shape. Black pepper is made up of small round grains that are hard and rough to touch, whereas bed bug droppings have a smooth surface and more powdery feel to them. The color of bed bug droppings is light brown in nature; you will notice that they will be slightly darker than coffee grounds but still lighter than coffee itself. This particular color can be used as an indicator for other pests such as ants or cockroaches because those bugs tend to leave behind dark colored droppings after feasting on your food, which can make you think that your house is infested when it is not actually so!

You may also see this stuff in gooey streaks on your sheets (as below)
It may be helpful to know what bed bug droppings look like, as they may be the first indication that you have a bed bug infestation.
Bed bugs leave behind small spots of what looks like rust-colored dust—but it’s actually fecal matter and other debris. These spots can appear anywhere on or around your mattress, box spring and headboard(s). This includes your sheets if you have them on your bed—the stains are usually visible in gooey streaks running parallel to each other along the length of your mattress (or pillows if used).
In some cases, you’ll see these stains arranged in a pattern such as “S”-shapes or crosses (i.e., + shapes), but sometimes they’re scattered randomly as well (as above). It’s important not to confuse this with mold or mildew; while both may cause discoloration and/or streaks on fabric surfaces like mattresses, they don’t leave behind matted clumps of feces—and thus are easily distinguished from one another visually.
or as little gooey blobs that have dried in place.
These droppings are usually found in large amounts, but can also be scattered throughout the bed. They are typically black or brown, and may appear as little clumps that are stuck together, or as gooey blobs that have dried in place. If you find these on your mattress or in other places around the house, it means you have a bed bug problem!

The black dots are bed bug droppings. The blood that is digested by the bugs is expelled with their feces. Bed bugs do not like to be out in the open, so you may only see a few black dots on your pillowcase or mattress.
Bed Bug Droppings On Pillow? Yes, it’s possible!
If you notice black spots on your pillowcase or mattress, then it could be bed bug feces.
Why do bed bugs leave this stuff behind? They eat human blood and because we humans are warm-blooded, our blood is a meal served hot, meaning the bugs don’t have to waste energy warming their meal before they eat it. This means the bugs can afford to spend more energy digesting their meal–and when you consume blood, you produce waste products that need to be expelled. In other words, wasted blood = digested blood = excrement from bugs!
