Bed bugs are flat, oval and red-brown in color with six legs. They are approximately 1/4 inch long as adults but can be as small as one millimeter when born. Bed bugs feed on blood which is why you may see them near where you sleep or rest during the day (in bed). When feeding, bed bugs inject an anti-coagulant into their victims to keep them from clotting their blood while they drink it up! When feeding on humans the victim may feel some itching at the bite site that usually goes away by itself without treatment within 24 hours after being bitten by a bed bug if it occurs at all .

Shed skins

Shed skins, also known as molted shells, are a common bed bug evidence. These shed skins appear as white and empty shells that often look like the bed bug itself. They are usually found near or on the bed where they were shed by the adult female during her molt process. Shed skins can also be found in cracks and crevices throughout homes where there is high activity of immature insects; however, these can also be confused with other sources such as carpet beetle larva debris or even bird feces that has taken on a similar appearance due to light exposure and time passed since being deposited in their respective locations.

They’re also very thin in shape, which makes them easy for bed bugs to insert into tight spaces like mattress seams or box springs where they’ll go unnoticed by the naked eye until fully developed into nymphs with wings and full bodies capable of crawling around on their own accord.

It takes between 5-7 days for an egg to hatch into a nymph after it’s deposited onto fabric surfaces such as sheets or towels; each nymph will shed its skin five times before reaching maturity (each “shedding” process takes place over roughly 24 hours).
