Prepare for extermination

You can prepare for bed bug extermination by:

• Making sure all holes are plugged. This includes electrical outlets, in-wall wiring, floor drains, and any other crack or seam where insects could get inside your home.
• Vacuuming and cleaning thoroughly. Use a vacuum with high suction power to suck up any bugs and eggs you find on infested surfaces around the home. Clean upholstered furniture with a steamer or steam cleaner before bringing it back into the house after treatment has been completed (see below).
• Getting rid of clutter and debris. If you have clutter in your home that’s hiding bed bugs or their eggs, get rid of it before an exterminator comes to your house—it’ll make their job easier if they don’t need to spend time looking through boxes of old mail and magazines while they’re trying to treat your home! You can also seal off areas where clutter tends to accumulate—for example, under beds where dust mites might live—with plastic wrap or sticky tape so they don’t come into contact with anyone sleeping there later on down the line when someone else cleans up after them without wearing gloves first…which would otherwise be very unhygienic!
• Moving furniture away from walls so there is enough room for equipment such as fans used during treatment procedures without bumping into things like doors which would otherwise cause inconvenience during this stage.”

Package and seal belongings

• Pack your belongings in plastic bags. Use the right size bag for the right item, and seal all edges of each bag with a permanent marker.
• Label each bag with your name and contact information, as well as any relevant details (for example, if you have pets or children).
• If clothing needs to be folded, do so before placing it in drawers; secure drawer fronts with masking tape or other fasteners before sealing them in plastic bags.
• Use a vacuum cleaner to remove bed bugs and eggs from upholstery before sealing it away in plastic bags as well.

Secure areas with tarps

To protect areas from chemical treatments, use plastic tarps and duct tape (or rope). Use the tarps to cover floors, furniture and other objects where bed bugs may be hiding. Remember to secure the tarp with ropes or duct tape in order to prevent it from sliding off while you’re treating your home. Additionally, it can be helpful to cover electronics with a tarp as well—this includes televisions and laptops as well as computers and stereos.

Remove furniture

Furniture is a common hiding place for bed bugs, so it should be moved away from walls and placed in the center of the room. It’s also important to lift furniture off the floor, which prevents bed bugs from crawling underneath and getting trapped there.

Prepare for treatment

• Put all pets in a safe place.
• Remove all food from the area.
• Remove all plants from the area. This includes any potted plants, as well as houseplants that might be kept in your bedroom or near it (if you have one).
• Remove all electronics, such as TVs and stereos – anything that is plugged into an electrical outlet could interfere with bed bug treatment chemicals and prevent them from working properly, so it’s best not to use them during treatment if you can avoid it! If you need to use electronics during this time period though (for example if there are other people living in the house), check with us for advice on how best to do so safely without interfering with our treatments or causing harm using our products.
