Can Ants Kill A Tree

My front yard is really ant-y. I have an itchy spot on my forehead and just can’t stop scratching it, so I can never pay attention to what Toby is doing at the keyboard until later, when I notice tiny little circles forming in all of my plants (I’m very green with envy!) When I was a kid, we planted a field of soybeans across the street from our house. One day, I came out to see my Dad standing in the middle of the field looking at something on the ground. He said that as he drove into the field, he noticed something crawling up his truck windshield. He thought it was dirt or mud until he saw it move again. What it was, were ants! Millions of them on an ant colony. They needed food for winter and chose my dad’s truck for the food stores…much to his dismay.

Can Ants Kill A Tree

Can ants kill plants?

Yes, they can. Ants are one of the most common insects that will cause problems for your plants. Ants are attracted to the sweet nectar produced by many plants and will often feed on it as well as eat the leaves of a plant.

Ants can also be beneficial to your garden because they help to pollinate various flowers and vegetables. However, when there is an abundance of ants in your garden, it may be best to remove them for the safety of your plants.

Ants can be removed from your garden by using boric acid powder or diatomaceous earth (DE). Boric acid powder is made from boron salts which have insecticidal properties that help kill ants when ingested by them. Diatomaceous earth is made up of fossilized algae-like organisms called diatoms that also have insecticidal properties that kill ants when ingested by them as well

If you’re worried about ants killing your plants, you don’t have to be.
