In the wild, ants are known to live only a few weeks to a few months. They have no choice but to die after their queen dies, which means that their entire colony will perish shortly thereafter. This is because all of the worker ants in the colony are sterile females; they cannot reproduce or create new queens for themselves, so if their queen dies then so does their species.

Yes, they can. Ants are colonies that are made up of both males and females. The queen is the only one who can lay eggs, and all other ants will help her take care of the babies. If she dies, then the colony will try to find another queen to take her place. If they can’t find one, then no more eggs will be laid and the colony will die out.
