Nearly everyone has experienced an ant bite at some point and most react in the same manner. They often hurt, itch and we sometimes smack them. The majority of us will also have a little red-pink bump where they have bitten. But what if you experienced more than this, asthma symptoms or even hives? If you are in this situation it’s possible that you could be allergic to ants bites. Allergic reactions to ants bites is not very common, but it is possible to be allergic to an insect sting. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, roughly 10 percent of people who are bitten by outdoor insects will have a reaction. This can be due to an allergy or to a toxic venom. While ant bites are generally not life threatening, they can lead to infection and necrosis (tissue death). These insects usually do not live in the house, but they can get into it. If you are allergic to them and then be bitten, you can have a severe allergic reaction, from which often leads to inflammation of the skin and breathing difficulties. Ant mites bite every one of us without exception, but only about 5% of people allergic individuals. When it comes to ant bites and skin reactions, there are thousands of ways that a person can lose their mind. I mean, just think about it! Ants can get into your trash cans, cupboards and even the crazy ones will enter the kitchen pantry. They can also ruin your furniture by entering the drawers and cabinets. You try to counter that by spraying insect spray, but an ant infestation can be a nightmare on its own. As a young child, I hated ants. They seemed to be everywhere, and I couldn’t stand them. As a result, in the backyard, around the house and any other place where ants would pop up, you’d find me battling them. Even though they were tiny creatures they would make me itch and scratch every time they bit me. Years later and I still have this fear of ants. However, my fear isn’t because of what they do but rather because of what can happen if I get bitten by one.

Second, it’s possible that your bug spray may be causing an irritation on your skin—this can cause itching or swelling in areas where you applied the spray (and doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s anything wrong with your body). If none of these reasons apply and one day soon after working outside all day long without any protective gear whatsoever (like gloves) I still feel fine as ever before then perhaps I’m simply immune?
