Dave Matthews Ants Marching Live

Dave Matthews Ants Marching Live is a song by Dave Matthews Band. It appears on the album Around the Horn and was released as a single in 2004. In 2009, it was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance. The song is believed to be written about Jessica Anya Blachly, an old acquaintance of Dave’s. On the album liner notes, Anya Blachly is listed as Jessicat. Ants Marching Live is a live recording of the hit song by Dave Matthews and it plays just like the original. The song was originally released in 1993 and went to number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also reached the top ten in New Zealand, the Netherlands and Canada. There was no official video made for this song, but it did get a live performance music video which featured Dave and the band performing at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. If you learn one song on guitar, make it Dave Matthews Ants Marching. This live version of the classic is great because it shows off his guitar skills and uses a ton of unique chords for your beginner’s fingers to scrabble about with. The live version is pretty tempo-free (it doesn’t slow down too much or speed up), and the singing is top notch. Many of my favorite songs are live. A great recording can be cheated by pushing the fader levels too high, and creating a style of playing that doesn’t exist in the raw energy of a live performance. This is why I like going to live shows, whether it’s Dave Matthews or The Rolling Stones, you’re going to hear a song done in a way it was never recorded.

Dave Matthews Ants Marching Live

Introduction

I’m standing in line for the bathroom at a Dave Matthews concert. I knew I shouldn’t have had those four beers, but when you’re watching a legend like Dave live on stage, you really can’t help yourself. The line is long and it’s not moving. I’m too far from the bathroom to get a good look at what’s going on, so all I can do is wait impatiently.

The guy in front of me turns around. “It was a long day,” he says to me with an exhausted nod and half-smile. He looks like he has been awake since the ’70s, but hey, maybe that’s just his style.

“And you had many pressing engagements,” I say back with my own exhausted nod and half-smile. A wide smile wouldn’t seem appropriate considering our current predicament: we both really have to pee!

Dave comes over the speakers singing lyrics that aren’t exactly appropriate for this situation either: “We’re holding up the line.” Oh man, Dave knows what we’re going through!

Then it gets even worse: “For the bathroom.” He’s describing our situation perfectly without actually saying anything about needing to go number one or two! That takes some real skill as an artist–you know how hard it is to dance around topics like that? But man does he nail it: “So you can powder your nose.” Yes! It feels so good when someone describes your problem perfectly! Even if they don’t offer you any solution other than dancing around your issues more artistically than anyone else could ever hope to do.

Luckily Dave then shifts gears a bit and starts talking about how he loves us all very much because we make him feel special (it’s true) and wants us all to be happy too (also true)…and then something happens:

“Now it’s time to go home

We’re holding up the line

It’s a good thing you’re reading this, because it means that your Talking Points are set to regenerate themselves every time they’re viewed. That’s right: no more missing out on the most important information. You’ll see it all!

We’re holding up the line

I’m not joking around here. I have been waiting in line at this supermarket for far too long. We have all been waiting in line for far too long. You’ve got to cut us some slack!

For the bathroom

If you’re going to be spending a lot of time in the bathroom, it’s important to have some style. For example:

  • Make sure your toilet paper is folded and placed at an angle; it should not be flat on top of your roll.
  • Your hand soap should be squeezed from the bottom up (instead of the top down) for maximum sudsy effect when washing your hands.
  • A toothbrush holder can be a great way to show off your personality by displaying something fun, but make sure that what you choose won’t end up falling into the sink or being knocked over by accident!

So you can powder your nose

You can’t just leave the line and go to the bathroom. You have to wait in line. And then you can use the bathroom, but sometimes it’s full of people so you have to wait for it to be free before using it. Or sometimes the bathroom is closed because someone was smoking inside or had a fight with another customer over who should get into the women’s restroom first—so now there is no way for you to use that bathroom either!

It was a long day

It was a long day. You’ve gotta have style.

The ants are marching and it’s a long day…

You gotta have style.

And you had many pressing engagements

And you had many pressing engagements.

You had to be at a party when no one is around, and you have to be on time for the concert. And then there was that meeting, which cannot happen without your presence. You have to be on time for the flight, too—can’t miss that flight! And if that wasn’t enough pressure already (it isn’t), there’s also the movie that needs to start exactly when planned so its audiences can enjoy it in their seats without interruption or delay.

Now it’s time to go home

Now it’s time to go home

Time to go home, time to go home now

Time to go home.

You’ve gotta have style

You’ve gotta have style.

It’s important to be stylish. It’s important to look good, to be well dressed, and to have a great wardrobe. You need to know how to dress appropriately for different occasions and situations, as well as how different clothes can express your personality or social status.

You should also pay attention to your grooming and hygiene – keeping your hair neat, trimming your nails regularly (and making sure they aren’t too long), using deodorant or cologne if appropriate – all of these are things that people notice when they’re assessing what kind of person you are or whether they would want to spend time with you in the future!

Conclusion

This was a really fun song to dig into! We learned how to play it, and then tried some of our own variations. Playing with the beat, tempo, and rhythm of this tune can keep you entertained for hours on end. And we hope that now you’re ready to head out there and try it yourself!
