Ants Marching is a song written by Dave Matthews and included on his debut album “Under the Table and Dreaming”, released in 1994. The lyrics make reference to his friends that have passed away and to struggles he has faced, including drug addiction. Dave Matthews Band lyrics are full of inspiring and knowledgeable words. I often find myself quoting these outstanding band songs. And one of my favorites is “Ants Marching” from the album Under The Table And Dreaming. This particular song includes some powerful messages that have been instilled in me throughout the years, and I’m sure they will be with you as well. Dave Matthew’s Band is an American rock band that was formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in the early 1990s. The group uses a combination of acoustic guitar and analog instruments – including electric guitars and saxophones – to create a distinctive sound. The band has earned nine Grammy Awards; hits include songs like Ants Marching, So Much to Say, Crash Into Me, Too Much and What Would You Say. If you’re a fan of the Dave Matthews Band, this post is for you! The ants go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah The ants go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah The ants go marching one by one, The little one stops to suck his thumb And they all go marching down to the ground To get out of the rain.
Dave Matthews Band Ants Marching Lyrics
Introduction
To be honest, I had no idea that Dave Matthews Band was still a thing. According to their Wikipedia page, they’re still releasing music (as recently as 2018) and going on tour. Their latest album is called Come Tomorrow, which could be a euphemism for death given that it’s been six years since their last one. It’s also worth noting that Don Henley of the Eagles once dissed “Ants Marching” by saying “I think he’s stealing from us.” Still, I’ve always loved the song and its lyrics. On its surface level, it’s a song about love lost but also about making the most of your life before you get old and die. Let’s take an in-depth look at what makes “Ants Marching” so special:
He who is not busy being born is busy dying.
The song is about the process of birth. Birth is a process that takes time, and it involves many steps. But most importantly, birth takes place in the body and mind. It’s important to understand that this song isn’t just about being born physically (although it can be interpreted as such), but also being born on an emotional level as well.
This line reminds us that those who aren’t busy being born are busy dying; in other words, if you’re not growing spiritually or emotionally every day of your life—if you’re not making progress toward becoming better than you were yesterday—then chances are good that person is going downhill fast! A person who doesn’t spend time doing what they love will surely live a less-than-fulfilling life full of regret; however, there’s still hope left for anyone willing to take actionable steps toward improving themselves daily by pursuing their passions and working hard each day at improving their skillset by learning new things about themselves or about their craft (in this case: music).
What would you say to me if I told you that I loved you?
What would you say to me if I told you that I loved you?
I’d probably say, “That’s nice,” because anything else would be too hard or too soon.
What would you say to me if I told you that I loved you?
I’m not sure what I’d say.
Really, really love you?
Love is a choice, not a feeling.
Love is a commitment, not an emotion.
Love is a risk, not an excuse.
Love is a reward, not an obligation.
Love is a sacrifice and always has been… Love the way you want to love my friend…
You probably wouldn’t believe me.
If you are not sure about your feelings, it’s best not to assume that others will believe you. You may think that people will take your words at face value, but in reality this is not always the case.
For example, if I told someone I loved them and then asked them whether they believed me or not, there is no way of knowing whether they would say “yes” or “no.” In fact, even a simple statement like “I love you” can have many different meanings depending on who says it and why they’re saying it and how long they’ve known each other before saying anything at all!
So instead of being confident enough in what we feel ourselves? We should try listening carefully instead–and maybe then we’ll really understand each other better through our own beliefs (or lack thereof).
Why am I so small? Why is there nothing within my walls?
- You are small because you are young.
- You are small because you are new to the world, and your walls have not yet been erected.
- Your walls must be built before you can stand tall and proud, so that all can see how great you have become.
Something must be wrong, been waiting for my life to begin.
I think that it’s obvious that love is complicated. I mean, it’s not like we ever really grow up learning how to do it right. It takes some time to figure out what you want out of a relationship and how to go about finding it.
And if you’re lucky enough to have someone who loves you back (which isn’t always easy), then there are all sorts of other things that come into play: trust issues from past relationships, insecurities about yourself or your partner, doubts about whether the other person will stick around for the long haul…the list goes on.
But no matter what happens along the way, once you’ve found someone you truly care about—whether romantically or platonically—you should never give up hope on having a happy future together! If anything goes wrong at first glance, keep trying until something works out right!
Still, stuck here within my head.
“Still, stuck here within my head
I wish that I could tell you how I feel
But I can’t find the words to say” – Dave Matthews Band
In this verse, the narrator of this song is telling us about his love for someone. He wants to express his feelings but does not know how. He knows that he loves someone but cannot put it into words or actions because he is afraid of rejection and hurting them.
Here we are now, entertain us.
The lyrics are about love and relationships, but there’s more to it than that. The song is about being in love, but it’s also about being in a relationship. It’s about relationships as well as love and the two subjects are intertwined throughout the song.
While we’re on the subject of subjects, let’s take a look at some of their meanings so you’ll know what you’re dealing with. In this first verse alone there are many instances where Matthews uses nouns or verbs that could be interpreted differently depending on who they refer to: “we”, “I”, “you”, “us”, etc.—it isn’t always clear whose perspective he’s talking from or whether those pronouns refer only to himself or also include others (like his partner).
This ambiguity gives his lyrics an emotional feeling because they allow us all kinds of interpretations for ourselves—our own reflections can fill in those blanks based on our own experiences with love and relationships!
Love is complicated
Love is complicated. Love can be a feeling, a choice, and even a commitment. For example, if you had to choose between your spouse/partner and your children what would you do? What about choosing between your partner and your parents? You may be faced with this situation someday in the future so it’s important to consider what you would do now so that when the time comes you can make an informed decision.
In this song Dave Matthews tells us that “love is the road”. In other words: love leads us down our path in life (our road). That’s why we need it! But sometimes “love leads us astray” as well because no one can tell us exactly where our journey will take us or how long it will last before coming to an end.
Conclusion
It’s clear that Dave Matthews Band is an outstanding musical group. They have a lot of great songs and they are well known for their live performances. If you haven’t seen them yet, I highly recommend seeing one of their shows when they come to your town.
