As a pest control professional and someone who has dealt with ants for over 20 years, I’ve found the best way to get rid of ants is to find out where their nest is. To do this, I place some Dawn dish soap in one area and leave it overnight. In the morning, I go back to the spot where I put the soap, and if any ants are present, they will be attracted to the Dawn dish soap. How do you get rid of ants? My local Home Depot store manager recommends using Dawn dish soap. Sprinkle the soap powder in a halo pattern on the floor to keep ants out. Or spray the ants directly with the liquid dish soap. This will dissolve their exoskeletons and dehydrate them. It works for a little bit but they will return unless you remedy their sources of food. If you have encountered an infestation of ants in your home a number of different approaches can be taken to stop the problem. You could call an exterminator; this is probably the route most people will take. Alternatively, you could decide not to do anything and just let them do their thing. Finally, you could tackle the problem yourself. I am going to offer one final alternative which will involve caring for those ants and moving them outside. This may seem mad at first, but the procedure actually works very well and the ants can become pets.

Since the dawn of time, humans and ants have coexisted on this planet. It’s a relationship that has been both mutually beneficial and antagonistic, depending on how one looks at it. In the majority of cases, ants are more of a nuisance than anything else. They might pick up crumbs from your kitchen floor or venture into your picnic basket to steal some sugar, but the damage is usually minor—at least for us humans. Ants are another story; throughout history, we’ve killed them by the billions in our homes, gardens and other locations where they’re not welcome. For a long time, we didn’t have any effective way to rid ourselves of these little invaders without resorting to toxic chemicals with deadly side effects. To get rid of ants with Dawn dish soap, you will need to first fill a spray bottle with 1/3 cup of water and then fill the rest of the bottle with Dawn dish soap. Make sure to use a fine mist setting on your spray bottle so that you do not waste any product.

Spray liberally and evenly, so that all surfaces are covered. If you like to measure out your creations, spray enough Dawn dish soap to equal one full tablespoon per gallon of water (1/2 cup).

Spray at least once per day for several days until there is no sign of ant activity or return visits to the area where they were sprayed. After this point has been reached it’s a good idea to continue spraying every few days just in case any stragglers try to return!

Repeat this process twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Keep repeating it until you no longer see any more ants. This may take several days or even longer depending on how bad your infestation is.

After a few days of using Dawn Dish Soap as an ant deterrent, if you are still seeing ants in your home, repeat the process again just like before and continue to spray them regularly until they have all been eradicated from your home!

If you have a spray bottle, fill it with hot water and Dawn dish soap, then shake to mix. Spray the affected area liberally and let sit for 10 minutes. Rinse well with warm water until all traces of soap are gone, then let air dry. Store in a safe place until next time (which we hope will be never).
