Diy Fungicide for succulents is a special homemade solution for feeding and preventing fungus diseases on succulents. It was tested in a green house and succulent nursery against various plant diseases, and works quite well. Fungal infections are problematic for anyone growing succulents indoors. Those potted plants that we so love easily succumb to pathogens and gray mold rot if they’re not kept in pristine conditions. I’m currently growing my own collection of succulents while living in an apartment (check out my DIY terrarium here ). That said, I’ve grown a bit tired of battling the fungi attacking my poor plants! That’s why today I’ll be sharing a homemade fungicide recipe that has been proven to work, even on the toughest succulent diseases. Powdery mildew is a common problem among succulent plants. The most susceptible plants to it include Echeveria, Jade, Crassula and even some terrestrial cacti. Because I grow many succulents in my home, powdery mildew was an issue that I had to deal with and I did so by creating my own homemade fungicide spray. Fungus can be a real danger to succulents. If you are using them as a houseplant, or as a garden plant, there are several disorders that can occur that will cause the plant to become sick and die if left untreated. There are some pesticides you can use on your succulent; you just have to figure out which one is right for you.
Diy Fungicide For Succulents
Introduction
Here’s the best way to make DIY fungicide for your succulents from home.
1 tsp. baking soda
Baking soda is a base and antacid. Most plants are acidic, so baking soda is a good fungicide for succulents that need to be maintained at an alkaline pH level. Baking soda can also be used to clean drains, make baking powder, or cook cookies!
2 cups water
2 cups water
The most important ingredient in this solution is water. This is known as a “mordant” or “fixative,” and it helps the copper ions remain bound to the surface of your plants, rather than leaching into the soil. Water that hasn’t been treated with chemicals or run through a filtering process will create a more effective mordant than tap water. If you’re able to use distilled water, do so! But if not, tap will work just fine—just make sure you have clean containers and measuring spoons before mixing things up! Because we’re using so much copper sulfate powder (it weighs 3 lbs), we need to ensure that all components are room temperature before adding them together because cold liquids can cause small particles such as these powders to clump together instead of dissolving properly into solution.
1/4 tsp. dish soap
Now, you’re going to need some soap. But not just any soap. You want the kind you would use for washing dishes. You can get this from the grocery store or even from your kitchen cabinet. The reason you would use dish soap is because it contains surfactants, which are chemicals that help break down oil and grease in water. Dish soaps also contain emulsifiers, which keep oil and water mixed together when they come into contact with one another (this allows us to wash dishes). Lastly, dish soaps are detergents that help break down fats and oils in our hands when we wash them with warm water; this plays an important role when trying to kill off mold spores!
The dish soap kills the fungus, and the baking soda brings the pH up a little bit.
To make your own fungicide, you need to combine a few ingredients. The dish soap will kill the fungus, and the baking soda will bring the pH up a little bit.
To kill off any fungal infections on your succulents, mix equal parts of dish soap and baking soda in a spray bottle. Spray it all over the infected areas of your plant. You should see improvement after just one or two applications!
