Household bleach is one of the most commonly used products in the United States, largely due to its ability to disinfect water, as well as deodorize and whiten laundry. While it is an ideal product for cleaning a house, it might actually be killing your plants and attracting more pests than it is repelling. Having an army of ant marching on your kitchen is not a good feeling. How do you get rid of them without killing them? For most people, the first thing that comes to mind is to kill these creepy invaders. But there are those who would rather be humane and don’t want to kill these pesky insects. Having an infestation of ants in your home can be a major nuisance. You have to be careful where you put your food, make sure neighbouring ant hills are kept at bay, and sweep or vacuum regularly to avoid the tiny critters getting inside your carpets and rugs. Well, do you know what will? A friend of mine recently asked me if bleach would repel ants. This is a valid question I suppose since it’s an all-natural way to get rid of them and doesn’t put the ants in any danger. To my surprise, there are several ways to get rid of ant infestations without harming them. This could be beneficial to many people since many of us have pets that we don’t want to be exposed to any dangerous chemicals. Here’s how bleach could help repel ants and how you can use other natural remedies too.
Does Bleach Repel Ants
Bleach will not repel ants. If you want to try and get rid of the ants in your home, you can use boric acid or diatomaceous earth. Boric acid is a natural substance that is found in some foods and insects eat it, which kills them. Diatomaceous earth is made from the shells of tiny sea creatures called diatoms. It works by cutting through an ant’s exoskeleton, causing it to die from dehydration.
Bleach is a strong cleaning agent that will kill most household pests, including ants. However, bleach does not repel ants from entering your home or property.
If you have a problem with ants, use bleach as a way to treat the area where the ant colony is located. It’s best to spray an area of about 10 square feet (1/3rd of a square yard). If you need more detailed instructions on how to use bleach for treating ant infestations, check out our guide on how to get rid of ants using bleach.
Bleach can be used to repel ants, but it’s not the best option.
If you’re looking for a natural way to keep ants out of your home, you may want to consider using bleach. Bleach is an effective pesticide and cleaning agent, but it’s not the best choice for repelling ants.
Bleach only repels ants temporarily because it leaves behind a strong smell that drives them away temporarily. When they return, they’ll be more cautious and avoid your house altogether.
However, if you’re looking for something more permanent, you’ll need a stronger solution. You can try baking soda or borax—these are both effective at repelling ants and other pests but they don’t leave behind any lingering scent that would attract more pests in the future.
Does Bleach Repel Ants
Bleach is not an effective ant repellent. Ants are attracted to food, and bleach is a very strong chemical that can make your food taste terrible.
If you have an ant problem, there are several things you can do to repel ants from your home. First, remove all food sources outside of your home. Then, try putting down some boric acid powder around the foundation of your house and in any areas where you notice ants coming in from outside. This will kill off any ants that get into your house and prevent them from coming back.
You should also try to keep garbage cans tightly sealed and clean up after outdoor picnics or parties as quickly as possible so that there isn’t anything left behind for ants to feast on!
