Home Remedy Ants Inside

Vinegar

Vinegar is a natural insecticide, and can be used to kill ants on your property. Spraying vinegar directly onto the ants will drive them away, as well as functioning as a great cleaning product for your home or garden. Vinegar also acts as an effective disinfectant, air freshener and weed killer.

Baking soda

• Sprinkle baking soda on ant trails or in areas where you see ants.
• Leave the baking soda undisturbed for a few days.
• Sweep up the baking soda after 5-7 days (or whenever you’re ready to get rid of it).

Borax

Borax is a naturally occurring mineral that is found in the earth’s crust. It is used to make many products, including laundry detergent and cosmetics. Borax can also be used as a home remedy to kill ants.

Borax is usually found in two forms: sodium tetraborate decahydrate (Na2B4O7·10H2O) and disodium octaborate tetrahydrate (Na2B8O11·10H2O). The chemical formula for borax is Na2[B(OH)4]xH20 or H3BO3. It looks like white powder or crystals. If you have ever seen boric acid on an ingredient list, this ingredient has been derived from borax.

What makes borax effective at killing ants? Boron salts have low toxicity but they can disrupt the normal function of an organism by interfering with its metabolism.* When consumed by ants, boric acid interferes with metabolism and kills them quickly.*

Sugar and baking soda

The first thing you should do is mix sugar and baking soda together. Put the mixture in a container, preferably one that’s small enough to hide on your counter but large enough for the ants to be able to get inside. Place the container near where you’ve seen them hanging out, but don’t put it too close as they may avoid it if they’re too scared of being trapped by its walls.

You’ll know when you’ve caught an ant because he/she will be drawn to what seems like an easy meal and eat up all of your sweet concoction. When he/she does, he/she will soon die from either dehydration or an overdose of sugar (or maybe both). Repeat this process until no more ants come around (or until you run out of cookies).
