Anyone who has a pet dog knows that fleas can be an extremely annoying problem to deal with. These little creatures can make your dog scratch, bite and itch more than you’ve ever seen him do before. Infestation Symptoms If your dog is scratching his skin, biting himself, licking parts of his body or even losing fur then chances are you have a flea infestation on your hands. If fleas get on a human they usually bite in hidden parts of the body that may not necessarily be itchy right away. Dogs don’t really care about where they lay their eggs and if they are infested with this blood-sucking insect you might see brown spots on the back or belly of your pet too. You’ll also probably see one or two tiny bugs that move fairly quickly trying to avoid being detected. This pesky little insect will bite your dog to be able to ingest its blood so if it’s not mating then it’s going through what we call an intermolt stage which means it’s digesting or excreting its waste products.

Fleas are a common problem for dogs, and they can be hard to get rid of. They’re not just annoying and inconvenient—they can also make your dog miserable. But if you know what fleas look like, you’ll be able to spot them before they’re able to reproduce and spread through your home.

Here are some things to look out for:

-Flea eggs are tiny brownish-black dots that will stick to your dog’s fur. They’re about the size of a speck of pepper (about 1mm), but they can be hard to see if you don’t know what you’re looking for.

-Adult fleas are small insects with flat bodies, long legs, and two antennae. They’re usually dark brown or black in color so they blend well with your dog’s fur coloration as they hop around trying to bite your pup’s skin! Dog fleas look like tiny black dots on your dog’s fur. These are actually the fleas’ eggs, which are laid by the female flea when she bites your dog. They stick to her hair and hatch into larvae after about a week.

The larvae feed on your dog’s blood for about two weeks, then they spin cocoons and grow into adult fleas. They stay in their cocoons until you brush against them or your dog brushes against them, at which point they jump out of the cocoon. They then bite your dog and begin to suck blood from him or her again.
