They have three life stages: egg, larva, and adult. The reproductive capacity of fleas is high. Females lay up to 50 eggs in a day. Fleas live in a wide range of environments, from tropical forests to the Arctic. They are found on every continent except Antarctica. They thrive in warm and humid conditions, but can survive in colder climates when they are in their eggs or pupae stage and have a waxy coating that keeps them from freezing. Some species of fleas have been known to live for up to two years without feeding on blood.

The average female flea may lay more than 1,000 eggs during her lifetime, which can last as long as two years under optimal conditions. Some species of fleas will lay their eggs on the host animal, while others will drop them off on the ground or other surfaces nearby where the host animal sleeps or rests. The larvae feed on organic debris in the environment and then crawl onto a suitable host when they hatch out of their eggs. Fleas are a big problem for many pet owners. They can cause redness, itchiness, and even secondary infections if you don’t take care of them. The best way to keep fleas away from your pet is to make sure they don’t have access to any places where fleas can live—and that means inside the house, too!

Fleas live in warm, dry places that are hidden away from sunlight. Since they’re so small (and super fast!), they can hide in tiny cracks in your floorboards or between furniture cushions. If you want to prevent fleas from getting into your home and making a home for themselves on your dog or cat, be sure to vacuum regularly—at least once a week—and clean out any carpets or furniture that contains small spaces where the fleas could lay eggs or hide.
