How Do Fleas Multiply

Have you ever wondered how do fleas multiply? Or does the process of flea multiplication sound familiar to you? Before I attempt to answer your question, I would like to point out a few things about fleas. There are approximately 2000 species of fleas and are divided into nearly 600 genera. Fleas have been on earth for over one hundred and fifty million years. You’ve got fleas. No worries, I’m going to help you get rid of them! Let’s be honest; fleas aren’t kiddy and they’re not pretty. Fleas are a bothersome pest that can quickly take over your home. Once your pets have become infested with fleas, it becomes quite a challenge to get rid of them and your time is better spent finding ways to get rid of the little (it’s really not so little) creatures than trying to find out how do fleas multiply. How do fleas multiply? They feed on the blood of other animals and they can lay as many as 500 eggs in their lifetime. You might think that this sounds quite low, but in fact it is actually a lot more than most other insects. Let’s find out how fleas go about their feeding activity and how this results in their increasing their numbers so quickly! Honestly, we don’t really know exactly how many fleas there are in the world. Estimates vary from somewhere between 10-100 trillion fleas. If you count the fleas on just one person and do the math, you get anywhere between 1-2 ounces of fleas. There’s an email going around (which is faster than I can type this whole page) that gives quite a good estimate to what each of these flea colonies might look like.

How Do Fleas Multiply

How Do Fleas Multiply?

Fleas are small, wingless insects that live on the bodies of animals and feed on their blood. The flea’s life cycle begins when an adult female flea lays eggs on the animal’s body. The eggs fall off into the environment and hatch into larvae. The larvae then hatch into pupae before becoming adults that live off of the host animal’s blood. Fleas can also lay eggs on inanimate objects such as carpeting, furniture or bedding in a home where pets are kept.

A single female flea can lay up to 50 eggs per day during her lifetime; however, it is not uncommon for a single female to lay hundreds of eggs in the weeks leading up to winter when temperatures drop below freezing and humidity levels drop as well. Without any natural predators, fleas will continue to multiply until they have reached numbers high enough that they are able to reproduce without having any competition for food from other species within the same area. How Do Fleas Multiply?

The answer is, they don’t.

Fleas are bloodsucking parasites that live on the backs of pets and humans alike. The larvae of the flea is what actually causes the bite. When a flea bites an animal, it leaves its eggs in the host’s fur. The eggs hatch into larvae and feed on the host’s blood until they become adults.

That’s right: fleas don’t have sex! They reproduce by laying their eggs in a host’s fur and letting them do all the work. They don’t even have to put in any effort or provide any resources for their offspring to thrive—they just lay their eggs and let nature take its course!

What does this mean for your pet?

It means that if you have one flea, there are probably hundreds more hiding out in your pet’s fur waiting to bite someone else! You might think you’ve gotten rid of all your fleas when you see one or two on your dog or cat, but chances are there are hundreds more living off their blood somewhere else on their body—and those ones could be reproducing as well! If you don’t want these bloodsucking parasites multiplying
