You’re reading this right now because you have ants and want to kill them. You could’ve just turned off your computer, but instead you read through the whole article, hoping that something would come up and it would help you kill your ants. Let’s start with this guide on how to kill ants with vinegar. Or, if vinegar is not what you’re thinking of using to get rid of those ants, let’s continue on and find out other ways.I was someone who was scared of getting stung by fire ants. They looked so fierce to me! Meanwhile, the regular ants were just a bother. I used to think, “why should I see a pest control professional?” Then one day, it happened…I encountered fire ants at home. I tried to chase them away but they got too feisty. I texted my friends and asked them what I should do. One told me that vinegar is an effective way to get rid of fire ants. But the problem is, I didn’t know which kind of vinegar was safe for humans and house pets (you never know these days). Most of the vinegars are strong and acidic in nature which means if any splashes on you it could cause burns or worse, irritations in your skin. So after talking with other home-owners in my area, it was agreed that white vinegar is the most safe and effective way to handle this situation.
How To Kill Ants With Vinegar
Find the Ants
The first step to killing ants with vinegar is finding them. There are many different places where you may find ants, including:
Kitchen – The kitchen is most likely where you will find ants. If there are multiple people in your home, chances are good that at least one of them has left food out somewhere and attracted some type of pest. Ants love sweets, so when they come across something sweet they will swarm to it like bees to honey. You should check any open bowls or cups on the countertops as well as any spills that have occurred recently.
Ventilation ducts – Concrete walls can hold moisture for quite some time after a rainstorm or heavy dewfall so if there are cracks in these walls then this could attract insects such as termites which can cause serious damage over time. A professional pest control company should be able to seal all potential entry points such as these using sealing compounds such as silicone caulk before starting treatment options like baiting systems which will attract more pests than just ants!
Clean Up
- Remove any food or water sources.
- Clean up any crumbs on the floor; use a cotton swab to get into corners and crevices, then wipe with a damp cloth.
- Wash food preparation surfaces with hot soapy water; rinse well and dry completely before using them again.
Apply The Repellents
- Spray the mixture on the ant hill.
- Do not apply this mixture to ants themselves. They’re too small, and you might end up poisoning yourself in the process!
- Spray the mixture onto your preferred application method (spray bottle, squirt gun, bucket of water) and then apply it to the ant hills by spraying them or pouring some of your liquid over top of them. You can also use a sponge for this if you find that spraying is messy or inconvenient for whatever reason.
- Wait until nightfall and then start applying your repellant mixture to earthen mounds found in areas where there are lots of ants! Make sure not to leave any residue behind because this will attract more insects who will think “Hey! This looks like a great place for me!”
Apply The Repellent Directly To The Ant Hill
If your ant problem is small and contained to one area, you may be able to kill the ants with vinegar by simply spraying them directly.
To do this:
- Get a spray bottle and fill it about halfway with vinegar. Remember that white distilled vinegar works best for this, but apple cider will work too (just not balsamic).
- Fill the rest of the way with water and shake well before using.
- Spray directly on ant hills or other areas where you’ve seen ants congregate until they’re coated in liquid; repeat as necessary until all signs of life are gone from those areas
Killing ants with vinegar is as easy as applying a mixture of vinegar and water. Once you’ve done this, you can take steps to keep them from coming back.
Vinegar is a natural ant repellent, disinfectant, fungicide and weed killer. It’s also an insecticide and deodorizer. You can use plain white vinegar to stop ants in their tracks. This method works well if you have a small infestation of ants in your home or office.
Just mix equal parts water and vinegar into a spray bottle and apply it where you see the ants coming from. The combination will kill them on contact so they won’t be able to return once they’re dead!
