Use a Spray

Spray the ants with an insecticide. Spray the entrance of your home or other structure where they’re coming in and any trails you see leading to it. Don’t spray on plants or grass, just directly onto the ants. For best results, do a thorough job spraying every inch of their entry points or trails so they can’t go anywhere else but back into their nest where they’ll die from starvation or drowning in water that you’ve sprayed on them.

If there’s no way for you to access their nests (like if they’re inside a wall), then try using sprays containing pyrethrin-based compounds like Cy-Kick Aerosol Concentrate Insecticide ($8 for two cans) which can be applied directly onto areas where ants are crossing over without harming pets or children who might accidentally ingest it by licking their paws after walking through treated areas during cleanup efforts.[1]
