The best way to get rid of fleas and ticks is to prevent them from getting on your dog in the first place. Brushing your dog regularly is a great way to do this.

Flea combs are an excellent way to help keep fleas off your dog, especially if you have long-haired breeds or dogs with thick coats. The stiff bristles of the comb will remove dead skin, dandruff flakes and loose fur so these can’t be used as hosts for flea eggs or larvae.

Using a shampoo containing insecticides helps kill the existing fleas before they lay more eggs, which makes it easier for them to hatch when they’re placed on your pet again later on in life (or even just days). • Spreader sponges are inexpensive tools that help distribute shampoo evenly across your dog’s coat during bathing sessions—and they work just as well when applying tick-killing solutions!

To combat ticks, you should check your dog every day. Use a flea comb to check the back of their neck and armpits, as well as both sides of their belly and groin area. If you have a long-haired breed, check their ears and tail too. Check other areas of the body such as between toes, in folds or under ruffled fur where ticks often hide out during the day (as opposed to sleeping on top like fleas do). Finally, make sure to look at your dog’s bedding for any signs of live ticks or larvae before putting them down for the night!
