I am a researcher in toxicology, focusing on improving material quality and promoting the use of natural pesticides on the QingHua website. Before my graduation, I was working as an English teacher in Shanghai, China. I was never good at chemistry as I find it a bit too difficult. I’m also not good at studying and can spend hours just browsing the web. But having adequate knowledge about homemade pesticides is important, especially if you have plants or vegetables in your backyard and want to protect them from the onslaught of insects, worms, and caterpillars that infest all vegetables.
How To Make Natural Pesticide For Plants
Introduction
A natural pesticide is a great alternative to synthetic pesticides, which can be toxic to animals and also leave behind harmful residues. If you have an infestation of pests in your garden or on a houseplant, then this guide is for you! I’m going to walk you through the process of creating your own natural pesticide from scratch so that you can get rid of pests in the safest way possible.
All-Natural Insecticide
- Begin by combining 2 tablespoons of dish soap and 2 cups of vegetable oil in a spray bottle.
- Shake the bottle to combine the ingredients, then spray directly on insects.
Chili Garlic Spray
- Ingredients: 1 liter of water, 3 cloves of garlic (minced), 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and 1 teaspoon of dish soap.
- Procedure: Put the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Strain the mixture into a spray bottle.
- Use: Spray your plants to prevent pests from eating them!
This is one way you can make natural pesticides for yourself using common household materials.
Neem Oil Spray
Neem oil is an effective, organic pest control that you can make at home. It can be used to repel insects and keep them away from your plants, but it also works as a fungicide to prevent fungal diseases in garden plants.
The oil comes from the neem tree (Azadirachta indica), which is native to India. In addition to being an all-around great plant for the garden, neem has long been used by Indians as an herbal remedy for a variety of ailments including fever, diarrhea and heartburn—just like oregano!
To make your own spray with neem oil:
- Add 2 teaspoons of neem oil into 1 cup of water in a spray bottle that has been cleaned with rubbing alcohol first (you want to avoid any contamination). Shake well before each use so that there are no clumps left at the bottom of your bottle when you’re done applying it onto leaves or stems on plants.
- Spray directly onto leaves where pests may be hiding out (for example ants around baseboards). You can also mix this solution into another type of pesticide such as diatomaceous earth if desired! If using indoor plants then try spraying once every 3 days until pests have gone away completely – this should take about 2 weeks total max depending on how many times per day sunlight hits certain areas inside our homes where we might need extra coverage.”
Organic Garlic Mix
You can make a garlic spray to kill bugs with.
- Garlic has natural pesticides, so it’s an excellent item for organic gardening.
- The spray can be used as either a liquid or powder, depending on how you’d like to use it. To make the liquid version: Peel 6 cloves of garlic and blend them in about 1 cup of water until smooth. Pour through a strainer into another container to remove any bits that didn’t get blended properly (you don’t want those in your ant killer). Add ¼ teaspoon of liquid soap or dishwashing detergent per gallon of solution; this will help prevent mold growth when storing the mixture in closed containers out-of-doors over time (this is especially true if you live in damp climates). If you’re going to keep the mixture indoors where there’s less risk of mold growth, don’t worry about adding the detergent—you’ll probably just end up tasting it instead!
To make powdered mix: Grind 2 heads of fresh garlic with ½ teaspoon salt per 1 cup dry vegetable oil (e.g., canola oil) until finely ground; then add 4 tablespoons lemon juice per 20 ounces dry vegetable oil & stir again until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed together before storing away from heat sources such as hot sunrays shining directly onto bottles/jars containing finished product sitting outside unprotected from direct light sources like that during summertime months etcetera…
Tomato Leaf Spray
Tomato Leaf Spray
Tomato leaf spray is a natural pesticide that you can use to control aphids and whiteflies on your plants. This spray is made from the leaves of tomato plants, and it’s best to use it when the leaves are still green. To make this pesticide, you will need:
- Liquid soap (dishwashing liquid works well)
- Water
- A spray bottle or mister (for applying the pesticide)
Essential Oil Mix
Essential oils are natural oils extracted from plants. They have insecticidal properties and can be used as a natural pesticide.
Essential oils do not harm the environment or humans, making them a safe and effective alternative to chemical pesticides.
Alcohol Spray
- Alcohol Spray
This is a really cheap, easy way to get rid of bugs. You need:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup alcohol or rubbing alcohol (70 percent is best)
- Mix the ingredients and spray on your plants every three days, preferably in the morning. If you have a lot of bugs, it may take longer than three days for them to disappear completely; keep using this method until you don’t see any new ones for about a week before moving on to another method. Warning! This can damage some plants, so test it first on a small area and wait 24 hours before spraying the whole plant with alcohol spray!
Insecticidal Soap
- Mix the soap and water.
- Spray the plant with this mixture. It is important to cover all of the leaves and stems with this spray.
- Wait 24 hours and then rinse off your plants with water. Repeat this process every three days until you are finished with spraying the plants, which should be done for two weeks straight or until harvest time approaches.
Using these organic pest control methods, you can keep your plants healthy without using hazardous chemicals.
A pesticide is a chemical or biological agent that kills pests, or any toxic substance applied to plants, animals and humans for the purpose of reducing populations of insects, plant pathogens, weeds, rodents or other organisms harmful to humans.
Natural pesticides are plant-based pesticides that do not use synthetic chemicals. Natural pesticides can be used as a safe and effective alternative to chemical-based pesticides in commercial agriculture and horticulture (gardening).
Conclusion
However, you can go a step further and use other natural methods to protect your plants against predators.
