When it comes to cockroaches, it makes sense that you want to get rid of them in your kitchen cabinets as quickly as possible. They aren’t known for being particularly clean, and they can cause a lot of damage if they aren’t kept at bay. While there are many things you can do to keep the roaches out in the first place, there are different ways you can deal with them when they are already inside your cabinets. In this article, I want to tell you some strategies I have found useful for getting rid of cockroaches hiding in kitchen cabinets. If you’re an avid reader of this blog, you’ll know that I wrote a post on how to prevent cockroaches on kitchen countertops. Now, the post was written toward people who don’t want to spend money on something that’s expensive when there are cheaper alternatives available. Just like how I wrote a guide on how to get rid of pantry moths for people who wanted a no-chemicals hack. When it comes to cockroach control, there are many different products available. None of these repellent products are 100% effective which is why it is important to have a holistic approach to dealing with a cockroach infestation. There are several inexpensive practices that you can implement that will make it much harder for cockroaches to find food and breed. Eventually, these little critters will move on from your home and you’ll be able to sit back at night and enjoy a meal without the stench of death in the background.
How To Prevent Cockroaches In Kitchen Cabinets
Introduction
No one wants to see a cockroach in their kitchen, even if you’re living in an apartment in a big city where they’re just part of the deal. To make sure you never have to see another roach again, here are some strategies for keeping them out of your cabinets:
These will help keep them out of the kitchen.
- Keep your kitchen clean. Cockroaches are attracted to crumbs, dirt and grease.
- Get rid of clutter. Roaches can hide in boxes, bags or other items that have been left on the floor.
- Keep food in sealed containers or the refrigerator/freezer. Make sure to empty any containers before putting them back into storage so that you don’t give roaches a place to live under the lid or around the edges of a container where they can feed off food smells coming from inside it (you’d be shocked at how many people do this!).
- Clean up spills as soon as possible — even if it’s just a drop of water — because these spots will attract cockroaches looking for water sources when their bodies start drying out from being without water long enough!
Keeping food in sealed containers.
The best way to prevent roaches in your kitchen is to keep food in sealed containers, both when you’re storing it and when you’re serving it. If a cockroach gets into your home, they can live anywhere that offers food or shelter.
Cockroaches will usually hide during the day and come out at night to look for food sources. The only way you’ll see them is if there’s enough light in the area that they feel comfortable coming out of hiding. When cockroaches are first introduced into your home or apartment building, they’re going to be searching for water and food sources before looking for places to hide—so keeping all unattended food items out of sight will help prevent infestation!
Not leaving food sitting out.
- Avoid leaving food out. Cockroaches are omnivorous, meaning they eat everything. If you leave food out and a cockroach sees it, it will be drawn to it.
- Don’t leave food in the sink. This is especially important if your sink has a garbage disposal—if a cockroach enters through this route, it can easily get into your cabinet without you even knowing!
- Don’t leave food on the countertop or in any other area that isn’t sealed off from other parts of your house (like underneath cabinets). This includes areas like pantries and cabinets where there may not be much space between shelves and walls.
- Always keep doors closed when not in use; if possible put tape along cracks where air could seep in through gaps around door frames.
- Wash dishes immediately after use instead of putting them away dirty because bugs seek out unclean things like dirty dishes left overnight!
Preventing water leaks and dampness.
- Keep your home dry
- Keep your home free of clutter
- Keep your home free of trash
- Keep your home free of pet waste
- Keep your home free of rotting food (i.e., old food in the trash can)
- Keep your home free of dirty dishes and dirty laundry
Replacing weather stripping.
Replacing weather stripping.
Weather stripping is a plastic or rubber strip that is placed around a door frame to prevent air and water from entering your home. Weather stripping is usually placed at the bottom of doors, where it can help keep out moisture, pests, and other unwelcome guests. You can buy weather stripping at hardware stores in a variety of sizes and colors; some varieties are even color-coded to make installation easier. If you don’t have any installed already on your doors, we recommend replacing them with new ones today! They’re easy to install yourself—just follow these step-by-step instructions:
- Remove old weather stripping by prying it off using pliers or another tool
- Measure where new weather stripping should go using measuring tape as needed (see diagram above for reference)
Regularly cleaning your home.
- Clean your home.
- Regularly clean the kitchen, and make sure that all surfaces are free of crumbs. This means cleaning the tops of cabinets and countertops, as well as inside your oven. Don’t leave food out either—even if it’s only for a few seconds while you’re cooking. Make sure to clean up ALL food scraps from the sink when you finish washing dishes (or beforehand), because roaches love lapping up bits of food that have fallen into sinks and drains.
- Use baits when necessary. If all else fails, try using a roach bait product to lure in any stragglers left hiding in hard-to-reach areas like under appliances or behind walls; this is an especially good option if you have kids who aren’t able to take part in killing cockroaches themselves! Just be sure not to use too much bait so there will be plenty left over for hungry little critters like these guys below:
Don’t leave food out.
- Don’t leave food out. Cockroaches are attracted to food and will crawl through every crevice of your kitchen looking for it. Make sure to keep all food sealed and put away in airtight containers, or better yet, washed and stored in the fridge or freezer as soon as possible after it’s been prepared.
- Clean up any spills immediately. If you have a messy kitchen and drop food on the floor, clean up that mess right away because cockroaches love lingering around moldy foods like rotting apples or potatoes (even if they’re not visible). Additionally, wipe down all surfaces with a disinfectant cleaner at least once per week to reduce risks of bacteria buildup that might attract roaches later on down the line!
Conclusion
Remember, cockroaches are attracted to food, water and warmth. Make those things more difficult for them and you will be more successful in preventing a cockroach infestation.
If you have found a few cockroaches in your kitchen cabinets then the problem is already bigger than you want it to be. The only way to handle an existing problem is by hiring a professional pest control company to exterminate the roaches, that is the only way to ensure they all get killed.
