If you’ve got fleas in your home, your first instinct might be to run out and buy some flea foggers. But before you do, we want to make sure you know how they work and what kind of results you can expect.

First of all, here’s a little bit about how flea foggers work: Flea foggers are basically insecticides that are released into the air using a pressurized canister. When the area is treated with the fogger’s contents, flea eggs and larvae are killed within minutes. The product itself contains chemicals called pyrethrins, which disrupts insects’ nervous systems so they cannot breathe properly or move around as they would normally do.

A fogger is a very unique and effective way to kill fleas in your home. It’s not just about the treatment, it’s also about how you use it.

If you want to get rid of fleas in your home, you need to use a fogger. A fogger is a device that uses chemicals and air flow to distribute the chemicals throughout your home. To use a fogger effectively, follow these steps:

1) Read the instructions carefully before using any product! If you don’t follow the instructions carefully, it could hurt you or damage your property.

2) Make sure that children and pets are not present when using a fogger because they may be harmed by fumes or vapors emitted by the product during application.

3) Turn off all sources of heat or fire before using a fogger because these devices can produce sparks when used near sources of heat or fire.

4) Make sure that all doors and windows are closed while using an aerosol pesticide so that insects cannot escape from inside your home into adjacent areas outside where they might be exposed to pesticides intended for use indoors only (e.g., fleas).

How To Use A Fogger For Fleas

Total release foggers, also known as “bug bombs,” are pesticide products containing aerosol propellants that release their contents at once to fumigate an area. These products are often used around the home to kill cockroaches, fleas, and other pests. Because the aerosol propellants in these foggers typically are flammable, improper use may cause a fire or explosion. In addition to this hazard, failure to vacate premises during fogging or reentering without airing out may result in illness.

Insecticide “bombs” or “foggers” are technically known as “total release aerosols” – once you press the button, there’s no stopping them and the entire contents of the aerosol are released.

The ultra-fine aerosol is designed to get under and behind furniture and into cracks and crevices – the typical insect hiding places. However, there are some important safety considerations and useful tips to get the best performance.

STEP 1: PREPARE THE ROOM TO BE TREATED

Open all cupboards and drawers to allow the aerosol to penetrate all insect hiding places. Belongings should be moved from the cupboards or drawers and placed in another room. For kitchen treatments, all food, cutlery and crockery should be removed and food preparation surfaces covered.

STEP 2: TREATMENT

When using flea ‘”bombs” is it vital that the label is read carefully and that all safety instructions are followed.

Key standard instructions include;

• Remove any clothing items, exposed food, food utensils
• Remove all pets and plants
• Cover fish tanks
• ENSURE THAT ALL SOURCES OF IGNITION (flames, pilot lights, electricity) ARE TURNED OFF PRIOR TO USE
• Before setting off the flea bomb, turn off fans and air-conditioners and close all doors and windows to the treatment room
• Position the flea bomb in the centre of the room on a flat, stable surface
• Leave the room immediately after starting the flea bomb

Note regarding smoke alarms: As the use of the product may set-off smoke detectors, before setting off the fogger, either switch off/ remove batteries from the detectors in the room to be treated or cover the detector to prevent aerosol particles contacting the detector. Remember to switch the detector back on / remove the cover once treatment is complete and the room has been ventilated.

STEP 3: CLEAN UP

A flea bomb can take around 10 minutes or so to empty. The fine mist will be quite dense in the air and it takes some time to settle onto the surfaces. For this reason it is important to stay out of the room for at least 2 hours after application.

After 2 hours the treated room should be aired (open windows and doors).

Wipe down any uncovered surfaces and vacuum up any dead insects.

Repeat the process for other infested rooms.
