I Use Frontline And Still Have Fleas

As a super responsible pet owner who’s been using Frontline Plus on my dogs for years, I was shocked and mortified when my vet told me they had fleas in April. My dogs are indoor dogs, never leave the house, and go everywhere with me. How could they be flea infested? The answer is Frontline Plus kills fleas fast, but it doesn’t keep them from coming back. Only an effective flea treatment that prevents new fleas from coming into the house will keep your dog — and your entire home — totally flea-free.

If you still see fleas or flea droppings on your cat or dog after treating them, it would be natural to think that the flea treatment isn’t working. Like many things in life, it’s not as simple as that. Modern flea treatments, such as FRONTLINE, don’t work by stopping fleas from jumping on your pet- they are effective at killing newly arriving fleas within 24 hours.
The flea life cycle is such that the fleas that are seen on your pet are only a small proportion of the total flea population. 95% of the problem exists in the pet’s environment as flea eggs, larvae, and pupae (cocoons). New fleas can jump on your pet at any time from an infested environment. That is why it is normal to see some fleas on a treated pet. Each new flea takes up to 24 hours to kill.

Because it’s very hard to tell fleas apart, it’s easy to see why some people think that the product isn’t working when actually it is continuing to kill fleas – you are simply seeing different fleas each time that will be killed soon. It can take up to 3 months to fully resolve a flea infestation (or even longer in some cases) – see “What is the best way to resolve a home infestation?” for advice on eradicating a flea problem as quickly as possible.
New fleas that jump onto a pet will have consumed a blood meal and defecated within 5-10 minutes of landing on your pet. Fipronil, the active ingredient in FRONTLINE, will also make the flea become hyperactive before death. Therefore, you should still expect to see flea droppings and lively (dying) fleas whilst treatment is being used after your pet has been exposed to a flea-infested area, more so during the warmer months when there is generally a higher flea burden outdoors.

The active ingredient in FRONTLINE (fipronil) kills fleas by affecting their nervous system, making them hyperactive before dying. These dying fleas often rise to the top of your pet’s haircoat, so the presence of visible fleas after treating your pet is a sign that the product is working.

It is also important to remember that the majority of the flea population is in the environment. If you are still seeing a large number of fleas a few days after starting treatment it is possible that there is an infestation somewhere in the home. It can take up to 3 months to fully resolve a flea infestation (or even longer in some cases)

How Long Will Fleas Live After Frontline Is Applied?

Frontline is a popular flea medication for dogs, cats, and other animals, but it’s important to know how long it works. Frontline is a topical treatment that you apply directly to your pet’s skin. It kills fleas by preventing them from being able to produce eggs or lay eggs in the environment.

The active ingredient in Frontline is fipronil, which works by attacking the central nervous system of insects. Fipronil stops fleas from being able to reproduce and causes paralysis, which leads to death.

Frontline kills adult fleas within 48 hours after application, but it takes longer than this for the product to completely break down into harmless components in your pet’s body. The exact amount of time depends on the animal’s size and weight as well as how much product was used during treatment.

Can I Apply Frontline Twice?

Frontline is an insecticide that should be applied once per month, according to the manufacturer. However, if you have a flea infestation in your home, it may be necessary to apply it more than once. In fact, if you live in an area where fleas are more common and/or during certain seasons of the year when fleas are more active, you may want to consider applying Frontline every two weeks instead.

If you’re going to apply Frontline more than once per month, it is important that you follow the instructions on the package carefully and use proper application methods so as not to harm your pet or create any health risks for yourself or your family members.

What Chemical Kills Fleas and Their Eggs?

Fleas are a common problem for pets and their owners. The flea infestation can cause your pet to itch and scratch, leading to skin infections and other health problems. Fleas also transmit tapeworms from one animal to another, and they can spread diseases like typhus, murine typhus, and cat-scratch fever if they bite humans.

There are many chemical treatments available that can help you kill fleas on your pet and prevent them from returning. Some of these chemicals kill adult fleas, while others kill eggs as well as adults. The most effective chemical flea treatments are those that kill both adults and eggs on contact; however, there are some products that contain only one type of insecticide but work well at killing all types of insects (e.g., insect growth regulators).

Some products will also help control other pests like ticks or mosquitoes in addition to killing fleas on dogs or cats. Some products include an insect growth regulator (IGR) that stops larvae from developing into adults so you don’t have to reapply the product every few weeks like with some other types of chemicals used to get rid of fleas or ticks (e.g., pyrethroids).

How Do You Know When Fleas Are Dying?

Fleas can live anywhere from two days to several months depending on their species, so you may want to check your pets every few days if you don’t see any signs of them dying off naturally.

When fleas are dying, they will stop feeding. You will see them crawling around on their backs or sides, looking for a place to lay their eggs. They may also be sluggish and have difficulty climbing up walls or furniture.

If you see this behavior, use an insecticidal soap or spray to kill the adult fleas and check your cat or dog for flea eggs (they look like tiny grains of rice). If you do not find any eggs and your pet continues to scratch or bite at his fur, consult your veterinarian about getting a prescription flea medication.

In Conclusion,

It’s possible that you can use Frontline and still have fleas.

This is because Frontline is an effective product but there are many factors that can still cause your pet to get fleas. The most common reason for this is that the product does not kill all of the adult fleas on your pet. You may need to apply more than one dose per month or you may need to use a different type of treatment altogether.

If you’re unsure about whether or not your pet has fleas, try checking for flea dirt under their fur. If you find any, then there’s a good chance they do have fleas.
