Insect Repellent Doterra
Doterra is a brand of insect repellent that utilizes the same active ingredient as DEET, but in a different way.
DEET works by inhibiting the uptake of choline into the neurons of insects. This prevents them from functioning properly and makes them stop moving. Because it affects their nervous system, this can be harmful to humans.
Doterra, on the other hand, uses limonene, which is an oil extracted from citrus fruits that’s known for its ability to repel insects. It does not affect any part of an insect’s nervous system—it just makes them want to stay away from you.
This means that Doterra is more effective against mosquitoes than DEET because mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide and lactic acid (which humans produce) more than they are attracted to DEET or limonene.
