Mosquito is a common name for members of the Culicidae family of insects, which are typically characterized by long thin legs and long antennae. Mosquitoes have long been considered a nuisance in many regions, due to the itchy bites they leave on those that they land on. The health risks associated with mosquito bites are also widely known, including West Nile virus and various forms of encephalitis.

Communities seek to control adult mosquitoes to combat an outbreak of mosquito-borne disease or a very heavy, nuisance infestation of mosquitoes. The pesticides we register for this use are known as adulticides. They are applied either by aircraft or on the ground employing truck-mounted sprayers. State and local agencies commonly use the organophosphate insecticides malathion and naled and the synthetic pyrethroid insecticides prallethrin, etofenprox, pyrethrins, permethrin, resmethrin and sumithrin for adult mosquito control.

Mosquito adulticides are applied as ultra-low volume (ULV) sprays. ULV sprayers dispense very fine aerosol droplets that stay aloft and kill flying mosquitoes on contact. ULV applications involve small quantities of pesticide active ingredient in relation to the size of the area treated, typically less than 3 ounces per acre, which minimizes exposure and risks to people and the environment.

Adulticides can be used for public health mosquito control programs without posing risks of concern to the general population or to the environment when applied according to the pesticide label. You can protect yourself from mosquitoes by using insecticides, which are chemicals that kill insects. There are different types of insecticides for different types of insects. Some insecticides work better than others depending on what kind of insect you’re trying to kill.

Insects have exoskeletons made of chitin, which makes them hard for certain chemicals to penetrate into their bodies. Insecticides use different mechanisms in order to kill these insects:

– Fumigants: This method uses gases (such as methyl bromide) that cause insects’ bodies to burst and die. Fumigants are used on crops like wheat, barley, potatoes and onions because they can penetrate deep into the soil where many pests live and breed but will not harm humans or animals who consume them later on down the line – although there are some side-effects such as headaches after exposure over time! Fumigants are hazardous to health too because they can cause cancer if inhaled frequently over time; so always wear protective masks when handling these chemicals at home!
