Long Skinny Ants

I have seen a lot of ants in my lifetime, with plenty of them being skinny and long kinds. I think some of you who have read this blog may also have seen them. These ants are an interesting sight to see because my dad always says they look like they’re marching somewhere.

Okay, so these aren’t really ants. They are actually crickets. Wait, not just any crickets – long skinny crickets!

What happens when these ants are hungry? Well, I’m sure you’ve guessed it in this post, but for the sake of using as little space on the page as possible, I will have to assume you do not know. And that is why we’re here.

The Long Skinny Ant is a species of ant that resides in the southeastern portion of the United States, from Texas to Maryland and also in Puerto Rico. Long Skinny Ants grow up to 1.75 inches long and are black in color. They aren’t a major pest, but they can be if they start nesting where they aren’t wanted. They are often mistaken for fire ants, but they aren’t as aggressive and their bite is more annoying than painful.

You know the Skinny Ants, right? Of course, you know the Skinny Ants. They’re these little guys who don’t wear pants and march around going “skinny ants, skinny ants.” It’s a classic. One of my favorites is we have this one ant, Peanut. Now Peanut is disabled but refused to quit marching with the rest of his ant friends. It’s one of the most touching moments I’ve ever seen in my life.

These tiny creatures are seemingly harmless, but the reality is that these creepy crawlers (such as fireants and isopods) are very well equipped to kill you.
