A Wasp’s life cycle is like a caterpillar, who will eat everything in sight, and then change into a butterfly. A wasp’s life cycle is similar to that of a butterfly: it starts out as an egg, hatches, becomes a larva, goes through two more stages of development into adulthood, and finally becomes an adult.
The metamorphosis of a wasp begins with the wasp laying her eggs on the surface of food sources. The female lays her eggs in groups called clusters and may lay up to 300 eggs at once. After hatching, the larvae take on several different forms before becoming pupae and finally adults.
The larvae are known as grubs or maggots; these larvae are legless and have large heads with chewing mouthparts and six pairs of legs near the front end. They have a segmented body with three pairs of legs on each segment. Larvae feed on dead animals or decaying plants; they are sometimes called scavengers or carrion feeders because they eat dead animals without killing them first (as opposed to predation).
