North Carolina Cockroaches

Are you concerned about North Carolina cockroaches? You should be! Cockroach control is a serious issue in North Carolina, and can lead to some pretty nasty health problems. These little creatures are known for being able to contaminate food left by gaping holes on the inside, as well as droppings. They’ve become an even bigger problem because they’re not limited to any region of the globe and can pretty much live anywhere there is food. North Carolina is known for its beautiful beaches, awesome barbecue and rich history. However, the state is also known for something unappealing: cockroaches. In fact, cockroaches are the most common pest infesting many homes in North Carolina.

North Carolina Cockroaches

Introduction

There are many different types of cockroaches, but most people in NC will only encounter four species. These are the German cockroach, the American cockroach, the Oriental cockroach, and the Smokybrown cockroach.

German Cockroaches

German cockroaches are the most common type of cockroach found in North Carolina homes. These small, light brown insects have a yellowish stripe along their back and grow to about half an inch long. They often live in kitchens or bathrooms where they feed on human food waste that falls to the floor.

Most people think of German cockroaches as pests because they can contaminate foods with their droppings and saliva. However, this species is also a nuisance pest due to its tendency to enter homes through open doors or windows when it’s warm outside. Additionally, these roaches are attracted by lights at night and may invade homes if there are several sources of water (such as overflowing garbage cans).

If you find yourself dealing with a German roach infestation, take steps immediately: seal entrances into your home; clean up spills immediately; fix leaky faucets; remove excess clutter from basements/garages/sheds; keep pets’ food bowls clean and full; use pesticides (like boric acid) which target insect pests but aren’t harmful for pets or children!

American Cockroaches

American cockroaches are common throughout North Carolina. They’re typically found in sewers and basements, but they can also infest homes. These pests can fly short distances, and they have been known to seek shelter inside homes through open doors and windows. The American cockroach can live for up to a year without food; without water, it can survive for up to a month; and without air, it can live up to a week!

Oriental Cockroaches

The Oriental cockroach is the most common cockroach in the United States. It’s also the largest of the common species, reaching up to 2 inches in length and 0.5 inch wide. Oriental cockroaches are dark brown in color, with tan stripes across their wings and body. These roaches like to live in basements, crawl spaces, drains and sewers. They prefer to live in dark, moist areas where there is no light available for their enemies (such as birds) to spot them easily.”

Smokybrown Cockroaches

Smokybrown cockroaches are the largest of the NC cockroaches, and as such they’ll be able to eat larger amounts of food than other species. They’re known to feed on decaying wood or insulation in basements, crawlspaces, and other dark damp areas. These roaches can live up to six months without food or water!

If you have a major infestation of smokybrowns in your home or business, call a professional exterminator immediately.

NC has 4 main types of cockroaches

There are four main types of cockroaches in North Carolina: German, American, Oriental and Smokybrown.

  • The German Cockroach (Blattella germanica) is the most common type of roach found in the United States. Their color ranges from tan to brown with a dark reddish-brown spot behind their head.
  • The American Cockroach (Periplaneta americana) is also known as the Palmetto Bug because it’s native to Florida and Georgia. They’re shiny black with red/orange wings that extend past their bodies when they fly. These roaches like humid areas where food can easily be found such as sewers and drains but they can live in drier areas too if necessary – especially if there are water leaks nearby!
