The series premiered in France on 1 September 1998 originally airing on France 3. It was so popular that it managed to survive cancellation and has since the mid-2000s become the highest-viewed programme in France, regularly scoring over 15 million viewers. In this episode, Oggy and the cockroaches are at a magic show. As usual, Oggy is bored by the magician’s tricks and starts to leave the theater. But when he hears that the magician can make coins come out of his ears, he goes back in to see how it’s done. When he gets onstage, the magician puts a hat on him and tells him to make coins appear from his ears. Oggy tries as hard as he can but nothing happens. He tries again and again with no success. Finally, he throws off the hat and walks away with his head hanging low because he thinks that he doesn’t have any magic powers after all!
Suddenly, something miraculous happens! A shower of money pours down on him from above! It turns out that there were two other magicians who were hiding behind the curtain all along! They had been making coins appear from their own ears while wearing different hats than Oggy had on earlier so no one would notice them doing it before him!
Oggy and the Cockroaches is a French animated television series featuring a cat named Oggy, two cockroaches (Jacky and Joey) and a dog called D.O.G.. It was created by Vincent Chalvon-Demersay and Xavier Choron, who also created Michel Mervius. The series debuted on France 3 on April 18, 1998.[1]
The series was adapted into an anime titled Kaiketsu Zorori in Japan and Oggy e os Catraipes in Brazil. In the United States, it is shown on Cartoon Network’s sister channel Boomerang. The show has also been dubbed into Arabic, Dutch, Finnish, German, Hebrew and Portuguese.
In 2006 it was announced that Oggy and the Cockroaches would become the first ever French television show to be remade in Hollywood.[2] A pilot episode was produced by Paramount Television with David Kirschner as executive producer.[3] There have been no updates since then regarding the status of this project.
