Parts Of A Wasp

Wasps belong to the order Hymenoptera, which is a large group consisting of ants, bees, and other insects with a membranous wing covering. The wasp belongs to the superfamily Apoidea and are known for their modified antennae. They have a narrow waist and are wide across their posterior end. Wasp are flying insects about two centimeters long. They have a narrow, yellow-striped abdomen and wings in various patterns of black and yellow, which can help us tell different types of wasps apart. The largest genus of wasps is the family Vespidae, which includes tens of thousands of species throughout the world.

The Parts of a Wasp

Head

The head is the part of the body that contains the insect’s eyes, antennae, and mouthparts. It contains two compound eyes and several ocelli (small simple eyes). All of these parts allow for sight in wasps. As well as having compound eyes, wasps also have a pair of antennae which are used to sense their surroundings and help them find food.

Thorax

The thorax is located between the head and abdomen. In this section of the body there are three pairs of legs on each side of it along with a pair of wings on each side too! The thorax holds all of these different things so that they can function properly.

Abdomen

The abdomen is located behind or underneath the thorax area (it’s where all your organs are stored). This area holds all sorts of vital organs such as your heart and lungs as well as other important things like reproductive organs!

The unique parts of a wasp include its stinger, ovipositor, and wings.

The stinger of the wasp is its most defining feature. It is used to inject venom into its prey, or in the case of the female, to inject eggs into fruit or wood.

The ovipositor is the tube-like organ that allows the female to lay eggs without having to leave her nest. The ovipositor also allows her to inject her eggs into fruit or wood.

Wasp wings are very different than those of other insects because they have a double crossbar structure and are covered in tiny hairs that help them fly.
