They are easily identified by their elbowed antennae and a distinctive node-like structure which forms a slender waist.

Head

The head of an ant contains its brain, eyes, antennae, mouthparts and jaws. Ants use their antennae to feel vibrations in the air and smell food or other ants. The jaws help them chew food by attaching to it with their mandibles (jaw pieces) and crushing it with their maxillae (upper lip). The compound eyes on their head allow them to see movement around them as well as color differences between different types of food sources for foraging purposes.

Thorax

The thorax is located behind the head of an ant and includes three pairs of legs near its front side along with two pairs of wings on each side at the back end near where it connects onto its abdomen via a thin stalk called an “stigma”. These wings allow ants to fly up into trees or over water bodies when looking for new food sources if there aren’t any left around where they currently live!
