Some species are even capable of carrying up to 20 times their body weight. Pavement ants are known for being great foragers. That’s why we sometimes call them pavement foragers. Pavement ants are a necessary evil that come with living in the Midwest. Although they may be scary, they are rarely dangerous. The vast majority of people who are stung experience only a very minor allergic reaction called Mediterranean Spotted Fever, a few days of fatigue, and mild joint pain.

Pavement ants are a nuisance! Not only do they cause damage to your home and property, but they bite.

If you’re seeing these ants around your home or office, it’s best to call in an exterminator. Pavement ants are so named because of their habit of living under pavement, in cracks between sidewalks and other paved areas. They can also be found under concrete slabs, driveways, and patios.

The bite of a pavement ant is painful and can cause swelling and itching. This is because the ant injects venom into its victims when it bites them. The pain can last for up to 24 hours after being bitten by one of these insects.

You should not try to treat the bites on your own with over-the-counter medications or home remedies such as baking soda baths or calamine lotion since these products may irritate the skin further rather than alleviate any pain or inflammation that may occur from the bites themselves!

What do they look like?

These ants are light brown and have long antennae. They can be anywhere from 5-10mm long. Pavement ants can be identified by their two-segmented petiole (the section between the abdomen and thorax) and shiny thoraxes. Because they live underground, you won’t find them walking around on the surface very often. Instead, you’ll see them in their tunnels or under your home’s foundation.

Why do they bite?

Pavement ants bite because they’re looking for food! If you see one of these little critters walking around your house, don’t panic—they’re just trying to survive like the rest of us (and also maybe get some sugar). If you notice an infestation in your home, it’s important to call an exterminator ASAP so that they can help remove all traces of pavement ants from your property.
